Who loves burgers!

My favorite place to go to is the Country House restaurant in Clarendon Hills for a burger. They have buffalo burgers which are very lean. Here is the link: http://www.burgerone.com/clarendon_hills/

Analog, I agree. Really great burgers there.

BTW, I know the manager there. Friend of a friend. He claims that the restaurant is haunted and that when it's quiet employees hear people walking around in sections of the restaurant that are empty. It's also rumored that you can sometimes see a face peering out of the top front window (facing 55th St.) even when the restaurant is closed. I've never seen one though.

B Bar Ranch 90% lean organic beef out of Big Timber MT. sells the best hamburger meat I have ever tasted anywhere. I have seen it in stores in Missoula, Great Falls and Billings for $5.69/lb. I load up on it whenever I drive through Montana. I know they sell beef on their web site but I think only in commercial quantities. Once you have experienced fresh grass fed organic MT beef you will never settle for anything less. Much healthier than the usual corn fed, Antibiotic bloated beef found pretty much everywhere else.
As for restaurants, The Quiet Woman in Corona Del Mar, CA has a famous char grilled burger served medium rare. It is a hard to find place on PCH well known to the locals but worth a drive as their food is quite good and the bar scene lively. Any old timers from Long Island, NY may remember the Old Homestead on Northern Blvd in Little Neck which was my all time favorite place for a burger when growing up in NY. But that was years ago, and I am not sure that this not so secret mafia hangout is still in business. Recently I had a great burger in downtown Billings in a new place called the Burger Dive. Their prices for toppings was bizarre but the meat and bun were excellent. Spokane has a new 5 Guys which I haven't tried yet. In n Out is the best chain burger in my opinion and a great value as the prices haven't changed in years.

A list of my favorite burgers...

Favorite Fast Food Burger: In 'N' Out "Double Double"

Favorite Burger In General: The ones I make with 80/20 angus, dash of worcestershire, fleur de sel, and fresh cracked black pepper. Cheese varies depending on my mood but usually go for Maytag blue, Dodoni feta or Valbreso feta. Cooked either on an open grill or cast iron pan to medium rare. Thin layer of homemade mayo, thinly sliced tomato, thinly sliced red onion and some baby arugula. All on a buttered pan toasted brioche bun that's not too sweet. If I have time, I bake my own.

Favorite Indulgent Burger: 20oz Kobe Burger at The Old Homestead in NYC

Favorite Restaurants Known For Burgers In NYC: Le Parker Meridien, Corner Bistro, Shake Shack, P.J. Clarke's

To those not familiar with the hidden In N Out menu, ask for your double double "animal style". Trust me, you will like it! As for the Old Homestead on LI, I assumed it was owned by the original one in NYC but apparently is no longer in business. As an aside back when I was a student at NYU, I was dating the niece of the owner of Peter Lugers Steak House in Brooklyn and Great Neck. We used to stop in all the time to take back "left overs" from the kitchen to the dorm in the Village. Speaking of the Village, I recall a couple of old student standbys from the 70's. Hungry Charlies was the cheap student hang out by the Park. There was an all night Nathans on 8th and 6th Ave which even had fast food fried frogs legs! Shakespheres was a great place to splurge off a quiet alley, and there was and probably still is the locals favorite Chumleys at Bedford and Barrow that looked like someones private brownstone as you must enter through a discrete courtyard with absolutely no visible signage. The Cookery which was on University not known for great food as I recall, but Bill Evans used to play there regularly just before he passed away. I was too young and stupid to appreciate his genius at the time being more into the Fillmore East as my music venue of choice.

Shakespeares on MacDougal is long gone, I used to hang there after Rocky Horror. Likewise the Potbelly Stove on Christopher Street. The good news is that Cozy Soup and Burger On Broadway between W4th and 8th Streets is still there and still as good as it always was!

I've tried it both ways along with "animal" fries. While I love the "animal double double", I'm not too crazy about the "animal fries".

.....a Mom-&-Pop grocery store in my past, would sprinkle a little vinegar-and-oil salad dressing on a bowl of shredded lettuce and put that lettuce on the hamburgers they would sell....not a lot of the dressing, and tossed for awhile....it was a wonderful add on the hamburgers....every time I would go through that town I would stop and eat.....

Wingfield's located in the heart of ole southern Oak Cliff area of Dallas. The place is so small that if there are more than five customers, the others wait outside for there orders. You check in so often to see if your order is ready.

Great hamburgers & fries.

I recently found a small burger/dog joint that set up shop in the old downtown area. It is called Instant Karma and has a real throwback feel to it. I have eaten there twice so far (only found it Wed.). Took the family there last night for them to try and I had the Grilled Cheeseburger. Grilled cheese sandwich, topped with a 6oz. Black Angus burger/ grilled onions/grilled colored peppers/mushrooms/bacon/ avocado slices, several healthy splashes of Siriachi Hot Sauce, then topped with another grilled cheese sandwich. It was freaking awesome!

The people who own and work there are extremely friendly and laid back and will make a burger or gourmet dog any way you want it. They make their own relish, ketchup, blue cheese slaw or ranch slaw. I also had what they call a Peanut Butter burger on my first trip there and was REALLY SURPRISED how good crunchy peanut butter is on a burger, with bacon, grilled onions and mushrooms. It was very good to my taste buds. They insist the peanut butter must go on the bottom bun.

I can't wait to try some of their other creations. They have a smoked salmon burger that looked really good, along with a crab leg burger that I am yet to try.

They are located across the street from my favorite Hot Wing place, bonus!!!:D
