Why does does hip-hop get such a bad rap?

sdmf, thats just it. If thats all you are seeing, its because you are watching it on BET or MTV, where all you will find is exactly that. Jeez, every time I watch a rock video I see some slut blond and sports cars. I listen to every type of music out there. I can get why people don't like hip hop, fine. But when I hear the types of things I hear in this thread, it lets me know some people are really just cheating themselves of experiencing an entire genre because they look in the wrong places. Imagine if I tried to judge any music by only what I hear on the radio or TV. I would pick another hobby, because 95% of commercialized music is ****.

That's what is played on commercialized Music Television stations and radio.
Not every rap song is like this. I can see how by just viewing current rap on tv and radio, it would turn some people off to the entire genre if that is all they heard.
Then again you got some 13/14yr old girls blasting this music and enjoy being called female dogs.
 
Here is my simple take on it all. And just remember it is just an opinion of one person.
To me music is just that music! Melody structure, singing, harmony, musicians actually playing instruments creating sounds from their minds right through to their fingers and throats.
I have and never will enjoy listening to anyone talking over backbeats or samples. No matter how fast you can thro out rhymes. No matter how clever your rhyme skills.
Regardless if it is gangsta or any other genre is irrelevant to me it all stands to be in the same category. Has nothing to do with race or creed.
If it starts your engine than good for you, but it’s not for me, nor do I appreciate it being shoved down my ears in movies and stores and commercials and so on.
Nor do I appreciate the inconsiderate juveniles blasting it at 2 or 3 am in my neighborhood.
Vehicles pounding this junk out from their megawatt systems to me is more about ‘Look at Me’ than any deep musical experience. It’s about attention not soul.
So I will continue to stick to music with actual signing in it or instrumental type over someone talking over borrowed samples or machine created backbeats.
Listen to musicians who actually took the time to master their craft with long hours of practice and had something inside them that took them to the next level where others can never go.
I work around some that really think that if they are fired they can easily make it by doing rap instead just because they keep up with all the local Texas rappers and idolize them. And not to say that could not make it if they really tried but it just goes to show how simplistic the whole thing is…simply put if you have a voice that works you can rap and if you don’t you can create the backbeats from the ‘groove machine’. But why wait till your fired how come you aren’t doing it right now?
If you want to help put these so called artist in mansions and Ferrari’s and Bentley’s be my guest. I personally boycott rap whenever and wherever I possibly can.
Call me narrow minded, old fuddy duddy or whatever but I still feel it’s a very poor excuse of expression.

now see, this is why I said people should be more open minded...

the clips you see are from the commercial hip hoppers (those gangsta types...), that is NOT the hip hop you should be listening to.

in my previous post, I posted some links to some youtube clips, check those, they don't go like 'uh yeah, uh yeah'...

Narrow minded. All rap music is not like that. especially if you refuse to understand the ones here that are trying to explain on here. You're talking about the rap that's popular right now. ALL music got it's quality. and it's trash. ALL of it.

Oh yes, that's right. They press a button and the music comes out of the machine. Takes no skill, imagination or passion.
