Why don't people use their car's Turn signals??

I think more accidents could be avoided if people would use their directional signals. Period.

Here in Florida they should offer them as an option at the dealerships. Hardly anybody uses them, it seems. And half the time, if they DO use them, they get it all wrong.

So: Just for fun, whether you use them or not, what would you say would be a good reason NOT to?

I'll go first:

1) I'm trying to eat a Big Mac and talk on the phone

2) Everybody in town knows ME! They know where I'm going so...

3) It's a sign of weakness

4) What's a turn signal?

Oh yeah, you hit on one of my pet peeves. I especially hate it when you are one the highway and people make lane changes without using their signal. It becomes a guessing game, who is going to cut in front of me next?


I use my signals.

And when you're at a stop sign waiting for traffic to clear and the genius coming down the road flips on his signal just as he is turning...man, that irks me! I mean, why bother?
 
Don't encourage them to use their turn signals, they'll just leave them on for the next 100 miles and make everybody nuts instead of just they guy they cut off making the un-signalled turn.

I would think the number one reason is laziness.

What would I say would be a good reason NOT to use turn signals:

Well, I know where I'M going! Don't you know where I'M going? I'M the only one on the road anyway so why do you have to know where I'M going?

(Sorry, can't think of any real reason other than laziness as mentioned and maybe just plain "don't care attitude".)

On a related note, I think those turn signals that show up on the side mirrors and along the sides of some of the newer cars should be made mandatory for the auto makers. They are perfect on multi-lane highways when two cars, two lanes apart, want to merge into the same lane but are just parrellel enough where you can't see the rear directional.

And those side/mirror signals are a great idea, I agree.
 
9) I'm a thoughtless idiot who's never given a thought to how I could hurt others let alone myself, while hurdling down the highway in two ton of steel!
 
Let's be direct/blunt in realizing that there are many people that are simply idiotic/stupid/selfish/lazy/irresponsible. There seems to be a greater percentage of the population that fits this description. Hopefully future vehicles with data recorders will make these morons pay if their non use of turn signal indicators causes accidents.
 
Yea it pisses me off to no end. Its requires virtually no effort and can avoid so much mayhem.
 
i use psychic turn signals...i don't have to signal,you supposed to just KNOW where i'm going.

and yeah personally i do use em,i know what lanes are for what,and i generally follow the accepted rules of the road....unlike 75% of the population in my city...cops included unfortunately.

it is a truly sad situation when on any given day you could be sitting behind a police car and thinking "if our positions were reversed i'd be hitting the lights to pull you over about now".

it's so bad and with so many blatently ticketable offences accepted as routine,that i've often wondered why they don't produce a series of PSA commercials on tv..ok here's how you are supposed drive a car,covering various routine things like lane use,intersections,turn signals etc..i would imagine if you learned to drive here you could quite possibly have NO idea what was and wasn't normal behaviour on most roads

That cracked me up! You're "supposed to know...." is a good angle. I didn't think the problem extended so far north.

It would be interesting to hear from people who DON'T use signals. So far only responsible drivers are posting. The problem may just be that the ones who are NOT posting are so totally clueless about safe driving that they can't understand what the hubub is all about.
