Why Izzit...

A bit off topic but i only have one peve with being a biker,i could care less if a guy rides a Honda,Harley or a Moped, but whats up with everybody waving at each other when they pass on the road,it gets so bad that every mile or so some boob rides past & for some ungodly reason that i cant fathom waves at me.I refuse to wave back.

Even my wife is sick of it.

Guess it's the same as like people that boat.. they always wave at each other too... or people that drive antiques.. just a common thing they are acknowledging... I can go either way.. I usually wait and return the wave any more...

BTW.. here's a good guy sport biker.. Mordeth13, Explaining the wave.. I had to laugh at some of it... I've watched a lot of thise guys videos.. he can be pretty funny.. check out his techno dancing.. He's a school teacher in the philipines I believe..

I spent 11 years working in a community based Rehabilitation Centre for people with a traumatic brain injury. We would get them (if they survived) after the acute phase in the hospital. Over those years we had 5 guys come in that had dumped their bikes. I learned something from these guys:
Youth + motorcylces + carelessness and excessive speed/alcohol = not being able to walk, feed yourself, wipe your own ass, remember anything for more than 2 minutes, have a romp in the sack with a pretty girl, get married and have kids or have a life. Literally the very first "client" I met there on my very first day of work was a guy I had known as a kid, he lived one street over from me. Now he shits his pants and wears a diaper. Nice.

My ex-wife used to care for a guy like that at a nursing home... He was in the navy and getting ready to ship out.. he took off running across the base, because he wanted to ask his girl to marry him before he left.. he tripped and fell.. hit is head on the curb.. toasted him for life.. he hardly knows his name...

The moral.. life comes at you from all directions.. might as well live it while you can.. your time comes when it's meant to be..

One of the women I worked with at the Centre had lived with her boyfriend for years. One morning as per usual he went to the bathroom, sat down on the toilet, had a massive stroke and was dead before he hit the floor. There is not much to be done about those kinds of things but going 150mph on a crotch-rocket is just asking for it. Seeing the consequences first-hand is rather humbling.

I agree.. but I also get a lot of people that give me crap about riding, because it's so dangerous.. or so they perceive.. but then again, more people suffer brain damage in car accidents, than they do on motorcycles.... or at least all the statistics I've read have said.. hhmmm.. helmets for cars?

That's because there are far more cars on the road, thus more accidents. People aren't compelled to make changes in their life until they are confronted with a crises and are forced to reevaluate. Does the woman at the grocery store with her 3 year old kid standing up and bouncing around in the shopping cart know that small children suffer permanent brain injury every year from falling out of carts and that it is the leading cause of brain injury in children under 5 in Ontario? Hell no. Not until it happens to their kid and then it's too late. I once, with the very best of intentions, told just such a woman how dangerous it is while her kid was jumping up and down in the cart and she told me to mind my own ****ing business. C'est la vie.

And that's why I practice the live and let live rule.. Something happens to me.. it's my own fault.. I'm not the kind that would sue the cart maker because my kid fell out over my stupidity.. and it's also the reason I get so pissed about seatbelt and helmet laws.. My life, my choice.. but if they are going to try and keep me safe, then why only with a few things? Why not just wrap us all in bubble wrap...

eh.. I'm getting way off on a tangent here.. sorry...

It isn't that simple though. The choices you make affect everyone else. You do something stupid because you choose to not where a seatbelt. You wind up messed up for life. Maybe you took an innocent person out with you because you chose to ride at 150mph. Seatbelt laws and helmet laws are there for the common good and not wearing them is just plain stupid. Cleaning someone up off the pavement after they have flown through the windshield of their car costs everyone. If an individual wants to assume those risks that's fine but not on my dime. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way.

No, it isn't, but those people are providing job security for everyone else.. Life is just one big infinity loop in the overall picture..

LOL! I agree. It's truly amazing how humans as a species repeat the same mistakes.

When it's your time to go, that's it, but WHY push it by riding a crotch rocket at triple digits thru traffic & such ? Yeah, when you crash, you're providing employment for the workers who come & shovel yr guts into a bag & all, but I'd wager they'd like a little less job security...And what about your family ? Y'know, you're SUPPOSED to bury yr parents, they're NOT generally supposed to have to bury you..And your brothers & sisters..Even if you're an insufferable arsewipe, they still love you at some level, they prolly didn't want this to happen to you...And if you're married & have kids, yr young 'uns are gonna hafta grow up w/o a daddy...Maybe yr wife will re-marry some old shitass who molests yr daughter & beats yr son or somesuch...& yr wife will have emotional issues because the man she loved deeply is gone. See, our actions ALWAYS have consequences, ridin' that Ninja at 150 thru downtown is fun, goin' out in a blaze of glory, hell, yeah, they're STILL talkin' about it 40 years later, but you're STILL dead, Jack, & a lot of people are still sad because of it...

I agree.. the streets ARE NOT the place to be doing that.. too many other people's lives are at stake.. but if a guy wants to ride tracks, and has discussed it with his family and they are ok with it.. then I'm all for balls to the wall.. and I probably would myself if it wasn't so expensive... I've got a few friends that road race tracks.. and it blows me away what they have to spend for a weekend of racing...

I love a great thrill, but I also like being safe, but thrillseeking is just dangerous by nature... I know my wife isn't ok with me hanging it all out there, but she has no problem with me jumping out of a plane if that's what I want, but she said she wouldn't watch.. that's about the only reason I haven't..

Aw **** Sandy! I'm sitting here laughing out loud!

You should have told her you were and that you don't care to pay for someone to spoon feed her child for the rest of it's life because the mother was too friggin' stupid to watch them.

Another personal peeve, BTW

Rant off

I should have but never had the chance as she stormed off. That though, was partially the point I have been trying to make. Society is held accountable for the dumbass actions of others and I'm tired of my taxes having to foot the bill. It's wickedly expensive to provide 24 hour care to someone that is completely dependent on others to meet their every need.

I think the argument that someone's behavior can cost the rest of us money is the WEAKEST argument against risky behavior. This argument puts a monetary price on freedom and I don't hold with that. Follow the logic.
