Woodworking and the tools you use and projects and wood porn.

Bought a dirty and rusty Renfrew scale at an auction a short while ago and finally finished the cleaning/restoration without losing much patina/character/history. Turned out quite nice after hours of wire brush in the drill, soap, water, scrubbing, sanding, boiled linseed oil on the cast iron and wood and finished with a wax buffed out.
Fully functional as a grain scale and dolley it will replace the wannabe coffee table I built that started off as just a small door from a barn.PXL_20260829_170523538.jpgPXL_20260829_170549688.jpgPXL_20261009_150924616.jpgPXL_20261009_150934886.jpgPXL_20261009_151027544.jpgPXL_20261009_151124229.jpg

Black & Decker, right? I got mine in the late 70's/early 80's.
Generic sorta' Workmate clone. Late 90's I think.

Workbench legs are 5" square mortisedand draw-bored into the top, and a good height so I dare not mess with them. I'll just have to deal with moving the tablesaw back when I rip something long. :(

Hmm or I could try orienting the saw orthogonal to the workbench....

Interesting project possibilities here -
My warehouse neighbor has a commercial door business. Mostly steel doors, bur occasionally wood. He has a pile outside his warehouse for used pallets that someone comes by and picks up every now and then. I drove by Saturday and spotted these in the pile. I asked him this morning if they were garbage, and he said yes, I could have them. Seems he ordered them for a customer who then changed the dimensions or something where they weren't needed any more. I went and got my forklift and brought them to the warehouse. They are solid core door blanks with both edges rounded and veneered. They measure 33" X 104 1/2"" X 1 3/4" thick.20261012_102212.jpg33 X 104 1-2 X 1 3-4.jpg20261012_100457.jpg

Not sure if they're red or white oak (I'm sure you experts can shed some light on that).

There are a multitude of steel table and bench legs available out there. All they really need is veneer banding for the ends and some sort of finish.

I'll figure something out.

Got the lathe just about squared away.

Also tuned the Sawstop table/blade to within 2 thou for 0 and 45 degree cuts and got a new WWII blade. Smooth! First time using it was to cut up some old alder and oak cabinet doors that I got from Habitat a couple years ago in order to make the smaller shelf for additional storage on the lathe.
