Worst food product ever?

I once found a can of SPAM in the cabinet of a house I had just moved into. I opened it and put it into my dog's bowl. He licked it a few times and then turned away. I could swear he gave me a bad look as he walked by.........

ok this may not be the worst food product ever.. but the name sure makes it seem that way..

Spotted Dick sponge pudding :yikes::wtf::yuck:

it's a real product too. I saw this in the Asian supermarket, but didn't have the balls to buy it. get it balls? :D

I surmise from circumstantial evidence a la Holmes, that this is a sweet cake brought to Asia by the Brits. It may actually be tasty.

Ah yes, here it is on Wiki.

"Spotted dick is a steamed suet pudding containing dried fruit (usually currants), commonly served with either custard or butter and brown sugar. Spotted refers to the dried fruit (which resemble spots) and Dick may be a contraction/corruption of the word pudding (from the last syllable) or possibly a corruption of the word dough.[1] Another explanation offered for the latter half of the name is that it comes from the German word for "thick," in reference to the thickened suet mixture."

Those Brits like to make batter-y stuff and steam it to make a very moist cake which they call pudding. They also call the car trunk a 'boot' so I'm not defending them. I'm just reportin'. :smoke:

Say, Bog, what about turtle and Mountain Oysters? Just curious, while we're on the subject.

Nope, Turtle is an amphibian, and there aren't any kosher amphibians. The Mountain Oysters are another no no because they come from the back end of the beast. I've eaten and liked turtle, but I've never had Mountain Oysters. I have eaten ram's testicles at a local russian restaurant and found them quite tasty. The after effect was a pleasant surprise for my wife.

I learn something new every day. I could call today done already.
Possibly a little TMI there friend but it's my own fault! :lmao:

I ain't gonna show this thread to my kid. He is a vegitarian and if he reads this, he'll never revert.

Turtle is mighty tasty. My father is an expert snapping turtler. I've seen him dive off the pier and wrestle big ones in the lake. Kind of crazy.

He makes a great Turtle Stew with them, and occasionally will deep fry them like fish.

It sounds very cliche, but they taste like chicken. Seriously.

Jeez! How could anyone even TRY that pig-brain concoction, let alone eat it regularly?!!?! :scratch2::yikes::puke:

I vote for SPAM, Pork Rinds, and boulleon cubes!!! :D

Hey, how about Shark Fin Soup?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shark_fin_soup

When I visited Vancouver the Chinatown markets had all manner of dried shark fins by the barrel. And something hanging from the ceiling that looked like dehydrated raw chickens.

Or Birds Nest Soup, made from actual nests of a type of Asian swift, with the twigs removed leaving only the saliva 'glue' which is turned into a gelatinous soup. Very expensive. Mmmmm.

The birds' nest goo is polysialic acid (a/k/a colominic acid), a very interesting carbohydrate polymer. Just thought you might like to know that.

The True Cost of Eating Pig Brains

Apparently this dates to 2006 and I missed it. I usually follow these kinds of stories. There are only 3 plants in the US where pig brains are harvested for consumption. They blow the brains out of the head with compressed air, and the workers at 2 plants got an autoimmune disease from breathing the mist. It was reversible, sorta.

Sorry to rain on your parade, all you brain lovers.

Oh, and another disgusting product

I don't think I've mentioned this one. I was at a potluck lunch several weeks ago and someone brought a tub of that store-bought ham salad stuff. Now I have no objection to ham salad if it's made right. But, being naturally suspicious of ready-made stuff, I read the label. This stuff was made from blended up bologna, which itself was made from mechanically separated chicken and pork. Blecch! And it was labeled "Sandwich Spread", which at first glance you would assume was ham salad. :nono:

Maybe I DON'T need to bring up another delicacy, Mountain Oysters ? (pig testicles, for you unenlightened types...)
