Worst singers

Here's another one for Yoko Ono. I actually have "Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking for a Hand in the Snow)" on a 45. I use it to play jokes on people. Sometimes, I'll play it at 78 rpm and get a few laughs.

Engelbert Humperdinck ranks pretty high on my "bad" list as well.

Russell Crowe, actor and front man for "Thirty Odd Foot of Grunt".
The band is "ok", but one has to wonder what they think of their ummm "lead singers"....... ummm....... "voice".

How much does he pay them blokes to get on stage with him????????

Is the shame worth the dollars???

Must be!

His voice is bad bad bad bad bad bad X 30 odd. That = really bad!!!!!!!!!!

Michael Bolton he sounds like someone dropped a Pioneer SX-1080 on his foot.
Yoko Ono My god!
William Shatner Good actor, but lousy singer.
Leonard Nimroy Illogical.
Whitney Houston Ruined such a beautiful song like I Will Always Love You.
Britney Spears
All Rap would not call it music.

lol everyone professes to like neil young but rags his voice..cracks me up..neil isnt going to sing opera for sure... but his voice is perfect for what he does..no one else is going to do his stuff justice...as nils lohgren <sp> says he is an amazing amazing songwriter..you cant hurt songs that good..

I almost couldn't believe I've seen Robert Plant, Janice Joplin, and Carole King mentioned, but...

Macy Gray (I'd actually rather listen to Yoko)
Aaron Neville
Billy Corgan
Adam Duritz (Counting Crows)
Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters)
Celine Dion (okay - maybe not a technically bad vocalist, but... just go away already.)
Anything rap (is that even singing?) *shrug*

:puke:

OK, a lot of these choices (like Dylan, Tom Petty and Neil Young) don't exactly have stellar voices, but are acquired tastes. In my opinion, they clearly have some redeeming qualities, or they wouldn't be so famous and popular. But some if these guys....

MY PERSONAL HALL OF SHAME:

Britany Spears- weakest voice of any contemporary singer, and a mindless twit besides. The only time she should sing should be in a musical porn film.

Michael Bolton- Somebody tell this guy to just buy his shorts a couple of sizes bigger.

Any of the crop of young actresses who decide to cut an album regardless of talent- Lindsey Lohan is the most obvious, but by no means the only.

And the ultimate bad singer- Yoko Ono! Have you ever heard her? Ya gotta be shittin' me! You could hear more musical sounds at a meat processing plant. Lennon's last record, "Double Fantasy" is full of great John Lennon songs, but Yoko is simply unbearable. The one exception is on the first song she sings, which she gets herself off at the end of the song. That is just too funny.

I think there are many ways each of us measures "worst".

For me ,there are two aspects to evaluating singers.
  1. The quality of their natural instrument (genetics) and their technical ability--the ability to find and hold a note for instance.
  2. And much more importantly to me: What they choose to do with that instrument and skill set.
(Forgive me, I'm about to offend someone, but they are only my opinions)

There are some very technically good singers that seem to have no soul. I find them boring at best and offensive at worst. (Such as Whitney Houston, Josh Grobin, Diana Krall and Andre Botticelli) Even though they might be technically ggod, these folks would go on my "worst" list.

And some, such as Neil Young, Dylan, Tom Waits and Capt. Beefheart who aren't gifted with technically good voices (although Beefheart really is), but use what they have to make such high art, they are on my short list for "best" (And technically--that is pertaining to technique---these folks are among the best because I hear that their vocal presentations are carefully crafted and executed)

Petty's voice is just weak. Spgingsteen is grating, and I was thinking of the latest singer for AC/DC.
I like Tom Petty with Mudcrutch, Springsteen sounds great on Devil's and Dust and also We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, and I like the original singer of AC/DC.
I personally hated Springsteen's Magic album
