Yamaha PX-2 - Starting My Journey

So I did some quick research and the actual model Thorens I owned was a TD165. I could tell from the pictures. Seems like the only one with the fishing line weights anti skate set up.

It's been totally refurbished by the Professor. I just don't see myself using it , so I would pass it on to someone who would enjoy it.

Well just to help you get an idea of the value, I recently saw a TT PX-3 go for 1200$ on Epray and it was for parts. No returns. I am sure if yours in cosmetically decent and you show proof that it was worked on by Alan, you could fetch close to 1500$ easily. Either way good luck, and even if you sat on it for a few years the price would still go up. I got a Marantz 2230 a few years ago for 350$ and it is pristine, and now they are getting 5 to 7 hundred on Ebay. Vintage gear is rising in value. Put out a feeler with a bidding set up. And mention the fact of being serviced by Alan.
 
$1200.00 for a PX-3 parts unit is absurd, did it sell for that or was he asking that much. I never look at the asking prices, I look at the sold listings.

Put up an ad on US Audiomart, it is free to sell there. No commission taken out of your sale. Also Craigslist, but then you have to deal with possible weirdos. But on Ebay you would have protection to get your money. Why not ship? If you sent it to Alan in Florida then you could ship the same way anywhere. Why limit the area to sell to. I used to be paranoid on the shipping but using the wardrobe box from Home Depot cut down to the proper size with thick foam padding it made it to Florida and back quite safely. Many people want a nice linear tracking table, less distortion than pivoting. And fully serviced by Alan should get you sold in no time. Post a pic if you can.

Check out this sale on a fully restored TT. And god knows who did it. Alan is the man. Not some rooky. LOL

Well, you said it was sold for parts so I was expecting to see a parts machine. That was a pristine PX-3 in the box with all accessories. I suspect that it was used however or all the parts would have been in bags, not loose in the packaging. Stating it was found in a Stereo/TV shop does raise a few questions though, why was it there? Seller did no testing, always raises a flag. So yes, $1200.00 in my opinion is to much for that machine.
If yours is in pristine shape I'd say it could be worth $1200.00 to the right person, maybe more. The service done on it will help the value a lot.

There is a demand. And yes it was definitely a bait on the sale, but I have dealt with Epray many many times and it is the way it is stated in the ad, like parts or not working, and then the seller is off the hook. I bought an amp years ago that I was familiar with and the ad showed a damaged power cord, looked crushed, but the front protect light was on on the amp so I took a chance thinking the cord shorted out and the amp was in protect mode. It was well advertised but stated no returns and as parts. I had to eat it. One whole channel was fried and one channel was good for parts. Also got a perfect machine cosmetically and it stated not working or tested, for parts and bought that one only to find it was totally manipulated, all the output transistors were cut off and there was parts inside the case in a plastic bag. I put up a stink and Ebay refunded me. Seller was furious. As long as you don't say it is in full working order than you don't have to take it back. I am sure TForan can get maybe 1500$ if put up for bidding with the information that it was worked on by the Professor. Alan is well known on all the TT forums and has been at it for decades. It really does increase the value of a cosmetically fine TT to have his seal on it. Those in the know would snatch that TT right up. Either way I hope TForan gets as much for it as people are willing to spend. Have a nice holidy gentlemen and may the force be with you.

I did have it on Audiomart and got some interest but changed it to local only. I also have custom made boxes for shipping but I've had bad luck lately with carriers. It also has a Denon DL110. Mine is an early PX-2.
