Yamaha T-7 because of its fancy motorized programmable memory.

And I don't have any other of the list. Maybe I'll find a nice T-2 one day.

How is the sound on the T-7? I too, am intrigued by the presents on the T-7. Interesting on an analogue rig...

My fave is the TX1000. I had a T85. Ergonomically it sucked; and I didn't have the little letters to put in the preset buttons for the stations. Dumb!
The TX1000 seems to do everything better with the possible exception of DXing, but I'm not even sure of that.
It is a great, flexible tuner. It has two antenna inputs. Each preset can be programmed (easily!) with it's special needs: antenna A or B, mono/blend/stereo, narrow or wide IF, and several other parameters for best individual reception-all of which can be deviated from easily without losing the original "recipe".

My T2 is formidable and matches my preamp-but I prefer the functionality AND fine audio quality of the TX1000, so it sits in the cupboard!
Any chance you would like to part with your unused T-2? I am looking for one. S

I don't have many tuners to compare to, but it sounds better (more details) than my Yamaha CT-610 and Pioneer TX-500A.

I think it should rank rather high in Yamaha's line up, since it's a single digit model. Over here in Europe only T-1, T-2 and T-7 were made available. In Japan all other single digits (T-3, T-4, T-5, T-6, T-8 and T-9) were also offered.

Let's see..................... have owned eight Yamaha tuners (CT-610, 810, 1010 & 7000, T-2, T-80 & 85, TX-1000) plus receivers (CR-610, 800, 820, 1020, 2020 & 2040) and the T-85 that I still own is my favorite, though I wish I had been smart enough to hang on to the T-2. dr*audio did a full recap and alignment on the T-85, Absolute Sound labs on the T-2 and merrylander on the CT-7000. The T-85 has the best sound and clearly the best ability to reach out and pull in signals (followed closely by the TX-1000). If you want the best performance (sound & tuning) from your vintage tuner get rid of all those tantalum caps and have it aligned. Key to good FM is a good antenna (I have a pair of yagi in my attic running in parallel). The Tuner Info Center has a good section on Yamaha (and most other) tuners.

I'll continue to research, but which silverface Yamaha is a better tuner in reception, rejection, noise, etc, T-1000, T-960II?

I just got a CT-810 this week. powers up but no signal

from reading old threads it seems I need to check connections from the power supply
there is not a peep from AM or FM and meter doesnt move
this morning I was leaning over it to reach something and noticed it has a low faint hum while plugged in power off.

Im not asking for help just rambling. I feel confident I can fix it I have not opened it up yet.

Other...the TX-2000 tuner component of the special Yamaha 2000 series. Details from a line card as follows:
- "Alpha" Circuitry
- CSL Tuning
- Digital Fine Tuning
- Low-Distortion High-Separation Pure Stereo MPX Demodulator
- Alt. Ch. Select: 90dB (narrow)
- 18-5/8" x 3-3/4" x 14-3/8" (W x H x D)
- 15.9 lbs.

^^^^ That thing is gorgeous.

My favorite is my "only" . . . a CT-410 II. It was nice to see FM Tuners refer to this as "a surprisingly decent budget tuner." But, I'm not sure what they mean by: "For those who care, the CT-410II also has a surprisingly powerful AM section."

What is a "powerful" AM section?

I live in a valley, and FM reception is poor. I currently use a T70 in the vintage rig but use it sparingly. I had a CT7000 for a while and it was a very nice tuner I should have held onto.
Regards,
Jim

Just bought a pristine TX-930 (in 2025) w remote and manual and antennas.... ($30). Owner bought in Japan while stationed there. It a lovely tuner—yes, too bad FM isn't what it was in the 60s-70s.... DJs with heart.....

100vac unit? If so, you'll want a 120-100vac stepdown transformer to insure you don't fry the power supply long-term.

tx -950, bought it used for $100 , sounds good, there are better tuners out there, but two few FM stations to spend any more money on and I listen infrequently. It is also remote control , for changing stations, I use my universal remote for that, and to change volume level of my CX-2 preamp.
If I were listening to more FM I might spring for a T-1000 or T-85 but I get by on my two systems with the TX-950 - it works well with the CX-1000s and MX-1s.

I'll cast a vote for the T-80 & T-85. I have them both cuz I'm in a quirky reception area and love radio.
1. T-80 has incredible sensitivity
2. T-85 has the better sound quality when I can lock channels in, but less sensitivity.

If I had to choose 1. I'll take the T-80.

T-80, TX-1000, TX-1020 are all sleeper hits on the cheap. T-85 has an overpriced legend kinda status at this time.
