Yo Terry (again)

Jay-we might oughta check these out as well-short bottle, but have the same mica pattern as the talls you put in the amp. Also stop-sign etching 6L6GC in it with 4 dashes below, made in USA above the stop-sign.RCA BS in orange on the base.GE made for RCA,maybe?

Heck, I missed that post yesterday. The stop sign pattern would indicate made by RCA to me. Probably a nice tube. I'll be around tomorrow if you want to stop by.

Good trip to th' toob spa Sunday:yes: I learned a fair amount and we did a little horse- tradin'. The RCA 6L6GC's a couple posts back tested like new ,and are running now! The etched dots or dashes threw me on IDing them.I'm now running some pretty slick rectifiers and well thought of matched 6SN7GTB's(lotta chrome goin' on here!) I'm still waiting on the NOS JAN 6L6WGTB quad.Jay says I'm darn near a toobsnob now:D!
I was digging around the old Airline PA head and pulled these 6L6GC's,and found an Amperex(Great Britain)12AX7A,plus a US Fender and an RCA.wow
It was pretty cool to get a peek at Urizen's amp, too:drool:
...only got one muddy paw print on me-coulda been more,I don't mind a bit:D

"Honeymoon's" over:tears: just kiddin'!! These amps are kickin' great.Transformer temps are the same as jay measured, the OPT's barely get over room temp.I remember the original tube lineup was great.5U4GB,6L6GC,6SN7's.(loaners,they're returned now)
Now I'm running 5U4G's,a quad of NOS JAN Philips 6L6WGB's,and Sylvania 6SN7GTB's(yellow label). This is my "baseline"setup.
I hate trying setup's in the day- evening and night just seem "better":scratch2: huh? Ran thru some Dire Straits, lotta JJ Cale,Ray Wylie Hubbard,a little Cross Canadian Ragweed thrown in.Little Feat-Chinese Work Songs album is pretty engaging and detailed- fun stuff, makes me wanna grab my guitar instead of listen:thmbsp:
I have a JAN Sylvania 6SN7WGT and a 6SN7WGTA running now(brown bases),pretty good so far.I like the Sylv.6SN7GTB's best,though.
Tried a pair of Russian military 6SN7's-not so good....they're OK,kinda... pretty sloppy on percussion dynamics.
I'd like to try this with 5U4GB rectifiers again. And man all this is telling me right up front what my room and system shortcomings are!
(as in - spend more money! spend more money!):D

...Jay the 2 Russians and 2 6L6's are ready to come home!

Built new IEC power cords-They look great:yes: Wattgate IEC's,some Bryant hospital 120V plugs I've been saving(buck fifty still in the wrap),carbon Techflex, and those ferrite suppressors.I just used some 14ga power cord I had around, and cut two 7 1/2' chunks.30 strand,I think.Gave the ends a shot of DeOxit.
I've got the Sylvania 6SN7GTB's back in.I tried a couple from the Lowery organ, not bad,not wonderful.
I didn't expect much-plugged up and powered up.Surprise-WTF?-Something wasn't right here...more bass, the slight low frequency dead spot where my chair is was changed for the better, imaging(imagining?) is better and more consistent. Some image "wandering" that bugged me in the past is gone.Got to looking things over to see if I'd changed my settings, and noticed the heaters were all brighter.Things just seem to have opened up all around! I was wondering if I should go back to 5U4GB rectifiers.Heck,no need...Man,these things are singin' even better! Well,I got to go finish the"road crates" for these in time for this weekend...

Jay I don't care if you have a year of work ahead of you, I am sending you my amp! You do awesome work!

Here's the latest "big" amp to come off the bench. 1625s feeding Thordardsons version of the Acro T300. Haven't powered it up yet except to check voltages and such. It's for Urizen.
