I actually saw one of the Electronluv amps when they put it up on ebay quite some time back. Really interesting stuff. Low volume custom masterpieces. Certainly look awesome enough. Decades from now they probably will be like my Audiograph 2A100 stereo receiver, obviously something someone custom built leaving some poor helpless person (like me) wondering who the heck did it and why. Gotta love those mercury vapor rectifiers. Someday when I get ambitious and get the parts together I am gonna built some sort of device, though probably solid state. I have 16 pairs of giant bipolar transistors as well as no less than 60 20000uf caps I bought as warehouse surplus. How exactly I will implement this I have no idea but its waiting in the wings...

IMO creations like this are an artform. You cannot compare them to an off-the-shelf amplifier. Oh, they also function as an amplifier, apparently a very good sounding one so that is a bonus. If they made no sound they would still be worth the money to some folks for their value as a piece of art. What Josh does is pretty unique and there is no doubt about his abilities and skills as an artist. Unlike most artists, this is one who isn't starving. Good for you Josh Stippich!

That is really a sight to behold. I have all the respect in the world for the guy that can do this. (our own Rob falls into this group) Looks like another person that likes a bright glowing tube.

Sure you could buy a mass produced car at those prices but I would think to buy a hand made custom car would probably set you back half a million dollars minimum. Say ten times the cost of the mast produced $50K comparison car. If you tried to make even an el cheapo $50.00 big box store DVD player from scratch guess what it would cost you to make just one?! You'd quickly spend over $25,000.00. You just cannot compare custom work to mass production. The custom work offers things that don't come with the mass produced product. These usually include,
1) something that is not available anywhere else in such form for any price.
2) better components, better performance.
3) much more attention to design, finishing detail and looks.
4) a limited edition piece of creative artform from the artist who made it.
5) exclusivity, if you are going to pay 10X and often more compared to the mass production model price for something generically similar you want to know that you have bought yourself into an elite 'club' with an uncommon item that has major peer group status.
People that have lots of money often like to buy nice things with it like expensive homes, furniture, cars, art, and especially toys.
In your line of thought one could say, "Gee, I have a car that I bought for $5000.00 that gets me to work and back as well as a $750,000.00 Fararri, so the Fararri is obviously a waste of money". In that case I'd have to say your job doesn't pay you enough money!
Just kidding. 
I guess if you aren't making a quarter million a year or more, have dependents and have to borrow the money to buy a $20K to $100K plus amplifier for home entertainment, then yes such a purchase would be suspect of being foolish.

I'm not sure I agree with your reasoning.
I DO agree that they are artistically made, but anyone willing to spend $25K-$100K (or higher) on an amp, will expect good sound, even if it is only percieved. There are alot of amps in that price range, be it a big Krell or an Audio Note, WAVAC, LAMM or whatever. Josh's biggest fans seem to be DIYers.
Wealthy people buying art, can always buy art that isn't electronic.

A custom motorcycle or car may not perform as well in all areas as a high end stock vehicle, you are paying for hand craftsmanship and having something that is one of a kind, perhaps even made to your exact specifications, not for it to be able to outperform everything else out there
