My vote goes to the Fried Q/3. Replaced a pair of KEF Carlton lll. Throw in a Fried "The Subwoofer" which goes to 30Hz and you have the perfect system.
CAMBER 3.0ti/sm. Best speakers I've ever had and heard. I love them they are going to the grave with me. 8in 2 way with seas/Audax driver and Seas titanium tweeter. You can't see them in the pics but there's riser on the bottom to allow the speaker wires to go out the back. Really clean look. They have cloth wraps but I leave them off and dust them everyday lol.
The Optimus T-70 is one of the best and most underrated Realistic loudspeakers. The second speaker made by Tandy Audio in Texas, it used a special purchase SEAS tweeter that really set it apart from the old paper cone tweeters used in other Realistic models.
My Frazier Dixielanders, a front horn-loaded 8" woofer with a 13" x 3" top-mounted wood midrange horn fed by an Atlas K55V. Once I added a Magnavox horn tweeter and high-pass crossover to fill in the missing top end, it's now my favorite 8" former two-way.
Huw Powell makes a new version of the old EPI 100 using his hand-made 8” mid-woofer and an aluminum concave tweeter. He calls them “Human 81”. Haven’t had them in the rotation for a while so today I hooked them up to a second system: Yamaha AX-630 integrated amp and Denon CDP. I had forgotten how good these sound.
I am still very impressed with a pair of JBL 4301b I came across fully restored. The monitor version of the L19. Running them with an 80 watt Kenwood these little babies like anything I give them.
Energy Pro 22’s are quite amazing. I am also fond of the Genesis 1+’s. Recently picked up a pair of Marantz Imperial 5’s which sounded very balanced and easy.
Currently on the hunt for a nice pair of ADS and would like to try some newer issue Monitor Audio among others.
These are not factory assembled but a lot of people bought kits or just drivers and worked their own variations. I recently put these together from parts on shelf for a long time. Grill fabric pending. Listening for several months I find them to be very good.
Of all the speakers listed in this thread I can attest to the ADS L520, as well as the JBL L46. giving the nod to the ADS for edging out the JBL for overall listening pleasure.
I have a set of Monitor Audio Silver 100's 7th generation with 8" woofer and 1" dome tweeter. They sound pretty damn good when coupled with a subwoofer. Thick MDF box with oak veneer, heavy little buggers too at 21 lbs each (15" high x 9" wide x 13" deep).
That's an EPI Model 100, with a second EPI 100 cabinet mounted to the bottom of it, cut out between the two, to be one big internal chamber (2 cubic feet total). The tweeter opening on the bottom cabinet is blocked off, and where the bottom 8" woofer would normally go, is a passive radiator. Kind of like a "poor man's EPI 200". They basically sound like 200s, just with not quite as much outright output capacity in the low bass (due to the 8" passive radiator, instead of the 12" in the 200). They're perfectly find for my friend's small apartment, though. No subwoofer needed!
