Anyone use JBL L55s yet?
Anyone here use a pair of JBL L55s as a starting point? The ones I'm looking at have LE14As in them, which need a refoam.
I'm wondering if the cabinet front is big enough for the wave guide. Also, is this cabinet one of those that is too small for the LE14s, especially after the volume for the WG is taken out? I've read how the L99s are to small for LE14s, but I'm not sure if the L55s are too small - they might be 2.3 cu/ft inside and I don't know what LE14As really like to have.
and.....is cutting up a pair of L55s an unforgiveable sin?

I would really like a set of LE 14As. I have the 2213H, but I have a feeling refoamed LE14As would be superior. I'm going to get thrown out If I keep bringing drivers I havent done anything with yet. I really need to stumble onto some nice 2.5 to 3.0 cu ft cabs.....

Heh. Gotta link for THAT one, too....Stacking them should work great. Flip both speakers on each side upside down. Discoonect the tweeter on the lower one. Now you have an MTM elevated off the floor a bit.

I was kidding. "Stacked Advents (!)" are sort of a cheapskate audio urban legend. Some people say they sound great but they measure like crap that way. I've tried it and to my ear it just wasn't any good.
I have an unrestored pair of original Large Advents (beveled edge) here. They need woofer foam, obviously. I was going to restore and sell them, as they're in pristine condition. Looking at the prices that a mint pair bring these days (under $200) it's hardly worth the trouble. I'm considering those for the EWave treatment.
Another option is a pair of Powered Advent cabs (basically the NLA cab) that I think I can get my hands on cheaply.
OTOH, maybe my next EWave project should involve these LE10A woofers and L55 cabs.

I know you were. I have a couple of pairs of advents I was considering making a new cabinet for and do an MTM EWG.
Seems that most people tend to prefer stacked advents to singletons. My guess is that the problems caused are offset by the increase in dynamics.

The reason I have all of these is it's so easy to acquire them and so hard to get rid of them. I've made a major effort over the last year to clear out speaker cabs & I still have way too many.
Way too much audio gear of all kinds. Right now I'm packing my 3rd Ampzilla to ship in 4 weeks. I'm keeping 1 for myself and if I'm smart I won't buy any more.
Well, it's not as if you need more bass, now, is it?
Regarding the larger dilemma, unless you have a client who wants a pair of E'Waved Advents, which I understand is a possibility, there seems less point in building replicants than trying other combinations. An exception might be trying the 8" square waveguides in one of the narrower baffle LA versions, as I have shown in my Advent thread.

I like the Advent woofer a lot. I'd consider applications for 2 of them/cabinet but the development is beyond me. MTM seems to have some geometry issues that I don't want to deal with.

You're reading my mind. I was looking at the new PE catalog last night wondering which one they'd fit in. I should make a 'module' out of the next pair for the sake of experimentation. Keg did something similar and I like the way that looked.
