DDS horns have always had a "home made" character to them, but I certainly don't have any of them that bad.

Those guys seem somewhat unclear on the concept of HF comp, and the assertions regarding directivity of that 15" woofer there are dubious, though I suppose all of that is inconsequential if you're using an exponential horn.... ;)

The altec cone profile, minimal inductance and big chrome dildo do wonders in on and off axis response.

Zilch, have you found/seen impedance and frequency graphs for the 2225?
Only ones I've found are for the 4647 cab, more then likely good enough, but....
 
Trying to get John to publish 45 degrees off axis with the current phase plug arrangement on the TD15M. What was posted earlier was the more bass specific driver, not the midrange intended driver. I suspect the TD15M will do better in that regard.
 
2235H does similarly, if not a tad better, at 45°, which is where it matters when mating with a 90° waveguide:

That's not to say it's as articulate there; the lower mass 2234H is generally regarded as having superior performance in that respect.... :yes:

Well, you just HAD to go and say that.....I guess I'll have to find another pair of 2225H to recone to 2234H, is that recone still available? Or do they just leave the ring off?

Kegger has some response charts in the PDF link he posted. 2225H seems to get real messy 45 degrees off axis around 900hz.

2234H was never sold as a component, and I don't believe we have any factory performance data beyond the T/S parameters. They are generally recognized as more articulate in the midbass owing to the lower cone mass; "Search" on the LHF may reveal more.

Other than being used in 4435, the only other reference that comes to mind is its recommendation as the replacement woofer for L200, which was crossed at 1.3 kHz.... :dunno:

Seems to be a db flatter to 1k, then rolls off quite steeply from there. Not sure, if I looked at the two graphs, I'd have read it as the TD15X had an advantage at 45 degrees off axis although the 2235H does look pretty good by most 15" driver standards. I suppose it would depend on how the two drivers behaved in the next octave. I suspect the JBL might not break up so cleanly.

It's unforunate that JBL no longer provides links to data sheets for these now "vintage" drivers. Older ones are available on LHF:

Sure they do, they just rearanged the "shelves" a bit so you have to dig for them. Look about half way down the page. They are not as informative as the newer driver sheets but they are all still there. That Vintage page covers damn near everything. I have them all saved on my hard drive so if they do go away we have them for LHF.

A note :

A while ago I posted my kit for sale. It didn't seem to integrate well, the sound was less fulfilling than what I was using before.

But I got to thinking - I was using the 8-ohm woofer XO, for my "8-Ohm" rated JBL 123A-1s. Well, they're specified with an Re of 4.4 or so. Maybe I needed to use the 4-ohm type.

So while I wait for parts, I am using a first-order low-pass at about 2200 because that's what I have on hand right now. The sound is decidedly cleaner, and I have hope that the 4-ohm version works a little better.

C2 = 21.3
L2 = .83

I'm also considering a Zobel.

C = 19.8
R = 5.5

Back in the fold.
 
Hello Zilch

Don't you have Bass Box Pro?? They have both drivers loaded so set them up for 100 watts or what have you and you can see the differences up top. You get more output but it doesn't look like it extends much higher. It's the exact same cone so off axis I would think should be identicle to a 2235 with a bit more juice up top.
