It's stupid already, really.

I set this up to see if I could make these too-small and tuned-too-high SR cabs play real subbass by running drivers with LF extension in them in "0.5" mode. Answer, "Yes, indeed."

However, it doesn't make practical sense; by retuning the cabs and running just a single LE14 in each, I can achieve the requisite performance without the cost of the second woofer, hence, my subsequent S99 tower design.

It's not L250 bass, because the cabs are only half that size, but it's better than most anything else in such a modest package, because LE14 doesn't HAVE to have big volume to deliver outstanding low-frequency performance.... :thmbsp:

Nah, you've got the cone area covered for anything but absurd bass output.

I think it was Ray (or maybe it was Tom Brennan?) who got to hear a setup with 4 contrabass subwoofers playing at once. That would have been something to hear.

Honestly, after feeling real 15hz extension capability in a few systems, it's hard to settle for 25-30. Ideally, 15 hz extension at 120dB is just about adequate.

My house and wife disagree with my requirements.

That explains it, below 20hz I really don't care all that much if I have usable to 20 and solid to 25 I am happy as a clam.

So where on earth did you hear 120dB 15HZ bass besides the old Sensearound?? Spelling?? movies like Earthquake and Midway??

Question,Would I be giving up much if when converting my hpm 100's
I used the Dayton 4.5" x 4.5" elliptical waveguide?Not trying to get
cheap but it looks like it may be simple swap out with the mid range
with little to no cabinet mods.My man cave is small.If I use the JBL
in a different enclosure,it will sit on the next shelf up and will be about
1-2 feet over my head when sitting.

I couldn't wait for the 20 ga. coil from PE, so I had them send me the 18 ga. one instead. It was a little too tight (too close or over other connection points) laying down. That's a precision angle of orientation, mind you.:yes:

Question: are there disadvantages to using solid 18AWG wire for the L-pad, input, and driver connections?

Hatchet, the only concern I'd have with the small waveguide is that it might be a stretch to get the pioneers woofer to play high enough to match up well. Even if it does, I would expect directivity issues.

Nice to see that someone else uses the top of the freezer as a 'work bench'! Crossovers look good - what's the bottom end going to be?

Von, I've already planned the same orientation for my 20 gauge coils for the exact same reasons. Sure wish PE would get their coil production facilities geared up to match the AK EWG builders! :lmao:

Anyway, looks great! And AFAIK, there should be no problems using 18 ga. solid wire.
