That's very cool-looking. What I don't get though -- and this is probably my own stubborn predilection for big ol' woofers and denial of aesthetics -- if going to that much trouble to build a cabinet like that, why not go for the efficiency etc. of a 12" or 15", and put it in a cabinet that supports the low end? I put Altec 414 in a Tannoy GRF cabinet, and it's got the lovely midrange AND quite respectable bass too... put a ewave on top and there you go. (I put Altec and Martinelli horns, cuz that's what I had, and the cabinet width is plenty for them..)
But it doesn't have such a cool shape, I'll grant ya...

Been a while...
Well, my son, Andy, is home for the summer so yesterday we picked up where we left off at Christmas break. Originally we were planning on building AR4x E'waves, but I had this pair of Bose 201's hanging around, one with a blown tweet, sooooo....
He used his laptop with WMP for a source and drove them with his K-16LS, the horn is a XD-120 from 18 Sound.
We threw in a simple Ratshack xover at 3K and EQ'd till it sounded nice. Very Nice!! We also found that by moving the horn back to the rear of the cabinet, it sounded the best. He will be building the Jackgiff crossover and we'll have to fabricate a bracket to mount the horn, and then we can really tell what they sound like, but so far we're very encouraged!

Fantastic to see that you have chosen this route. I have a pair of these from a church sale last year and I have found them pretty much intolerable to listen to. With some encouraging feedback, this would be an easy path for me to pursue.
Hopefully you will be posting with your results/impressions/pictures.
I think his cabinet will have two 12" drivers actually. Dan's project is over on HTGuide.com, he already bought the 12PR300 for testing so I assume the box designs will use two of those 12" drivers.

Ah, right. I made a faulty assumption on what I thought I knew of "frugelhorn".
To me it seems like a perfectly great idea to try mating a compression driver+waveguide with a wide range of bottom end solutions. I'm very pleased with a larger CD horn + JBL 2441 2" driver with a giant BLH using 15" driver, crossing over at 800hz.

For right now, you might reverse the polarity on the HF drivers, and I believe you'll find they will sound OK with the waveguide moved more forward, but I encourage you to build the E'Wave crossovers to get the proper HF compensation happening. Note that the polarity is inverted with those, as well.
In any case, if you don't have measurement gear, you're working the right approach -- go with what sounds best.... :yes:

I found the XD120 driver works very well on standard E'Wave x-o and the PT waveguide 6x6.
I really like the 18 Sound elliptical as well.

But while I'm not in love with the high end on these 901's, I have have to admit that the bass & lower midrange is exceptionally fun.
I don't think it would be possible to make something like this work though. Not when you have to use the EQ to make the speaker function properly. And the EQ would just screw up the highs after econowaving it.

What are the values, same as the values on the original xover posted?

It's just visual for reference. I'm not sure but I think all the E-Wave crossovers have this layout. I posted the components I picked up @ HT Guide. I'd post them here but I deviated from the Stock BOM & I don't want to add to the confusion...
Could you post the inner and outer cut-out dimensions for the woofer hole on those buyout cabinets you picked up? I'm thinking they would make great E-Wave boxes. How much did they charge you to ship them. I'm fairly sure I can show you how to make them work really well with the AE Drivers in an E-Wave configuration.

I did finally call JBL on the MRX512 WG's they said they would have to move them from a production area if I wanted any, this adds an extra 10-14 days days from the time an order is placed.
The crossover layout is uploaded in 4 sizes now, feel free to use it if you like.

The standard E'Wave crossover layout fits the specified components on a 3" x 6" board, with integral input binding posts:
