Ordered my parts for the project today.:banana: The lady at JBL said "WOW these sure are popular! do they break or something?" I said no just a lot of people building Ewaves!!:D

There was more to the conversation than that but I thought it was pretty funny!

Anyways doing a 6X6 PT and the 12X6 PT. 12X6 is going to mate with an LE14H-1 and the 6X6 is just because:yes: Hopefully I will get to play this weekend.

I am also trying to get a machine up and running with the M-audio 410 and Sound easy. We will see if I can comprehend this stuff by any stretch.:headscrat

I've got a pair of HPM-100s coming over. Looking forward to doing an ewave experiment on them.
Which version of the ewave crossover works best with the HPM-100 woofer and cab? Kegger?

You find or borrow the woofers and build cabs, or stick 'em in whatever might work.... :yes:
 
The music of course, and the best performance for the money. That is the attraction and the point of this project. I'd probably not do an in-demand nice working collectible, rather sell it to finance the project based on a solid junker or vintage woofer box with a missing or comparitively miserable top end. Any cannibalized or abused solid candidate makes perfect sense and can usually be had for very little.

Well, I spent a lot of time searching last night and I must be missing the posts somehow. :dunno:

Did you measure them on Mxlews' speakers when he went from the 123 to the LE14A woofer?

Skywave - I'll try the pink noise test, but I really need to get the speakers outdoors to do this.

Seeing as my tweeters are sitting on top of the boxes right now, I moved them back and forth a bit to see if I hear much difference - yes I can. I seem to prefer them with the WG flange lined up with baffle, but it could be I'm simply used to that sound!

To be clear - I'm just curious about the next level of 'tweaking' - nothing really wrong with them right now! :D

The best part of the HPM100 is the well made walnut veneered cabinet with a 12" woofer cutout. The woofer's pretty good too. :D
 
Interesting about the HPM-100, I got the impression over at the Pioneer forum that they were a must-have for that group. I'm not interested in collecting speakers that don't sound right and I don't recall hearing any vintage Asian speakers that did tho' I've never heard the Yamaha Beryllium monitors.
The great thing to me about the EW is that is a competent 2-way concept that only needs a well-integrated stereo sub to be a true full-range system. It is extremely difficult to do a multi-driver system that doesn't compromise something that matters with the music, most sound like a sonically compressed incoherent mess.
I am very looking forward to working with this concept once I get the deck cleared here.
 
I built my hpm ewaves using the partslist from Keggers kpm thread and it
worked out great.They sound awesome and the only modification I did to
the original hpm's was drill a 1/4 hole in the back and unplug the original
woofer wires running new wires to a seperate box that houses the crossover
and waveguide.I can easily put them back to stock form but that was pointless because I cant see doing that as they put the old setup to
shame making them obsolete to my ears and they were pretty good to
start with aside from being a little bright and having a small sweet spot.
Now the whole room is a sweet spot and to think I was blaming it on
my hardwood floors,windows and lack of treatments.It is well worth
sacrificing the nicest set of hpm's if you are going to listen and not
sell them.
 
One more thing about the hpm's.Mine were the 100-200 watt version
and they made some that were 50-100 watt.Not sure what kind of
difference that would make when building them.

If you collect Pioneer gear that's true, as it makes the system 'complete'. They're not as bad as I was making them out to be, but they do have a sound you either love or hate.
 
OK, now I am again rethinking my original notion to 'do' a set of otherwise original Pioneer CS-R300 since they sound like crap tho' the cabs are really well built. Not sure how good the woof is in the mids and how much of the bad sound is due to the x-over parts vs the woof. Nonetheless the woof can be replaced if not usable. Dunno if anyone collects entry-level vintage Pioneer anyway.

You should try those r300's and upgrade the woofer later.Pioneer made some
pretty good woofers so you might be surprised.A friend just built a set using
the dayton 12" classics from P.E. and they sound very good at about 70.00
for the pair.Finding JBL stuff around here is next to impossible but I would
be curious as how the hpm and dayton classic would fair against the JBL's.
Someone that has JBL's should do a shootout as inquiring minds want to
know.:smoke:
 
OK, the ARs will go on the back-burner except perhaps for a tweeter transplant for now. After reviewing the previous pertinent exchange starting at page 162 it's definitely the CS-R300 for for the E-Wave project to go forward.
