Duff, do you have the matching console? If so, does the top hinge up like a lid, or does it have front tambour doors? Mine has the tambour doors. The only other Barzilay cabinet I've seen locally has the hinged lid, and was quite different from mine in looks.

I had the same thing happen on HTguide forum, but they wouldnt let me use my name, (why I dont know. as I couldnt find anyone with my name, and I hadnt previously signed up, so I reversed my name to CllessuR! On AVsciences forum I had to go to Russell50 b/c someone already had that name, and it wasnt me! I figured our system hear would do the same, oh well ... it is!

Wow those look great! You beat me to it. I started mine last year but never finished them. Picked up some JBL 2223H's from Russell as my TAD's are going into the Valencia cabinets. Do you have the original slatted wooden grills?

The airtightness of the rear is the only consideration right now. It's pretty good, but not perfect. I have some silicone caulk to squirt into cracks and whatnot to get these sealed up tight.

Using caulk will make it somewhat difficult to get the rear panel off.

When Duff built his, he brought them to ZilchLab for airtightness testing, and we found the leaks, which he subsequently repaired.

Here's the method: Close the ports with ZilchPlugz™ and play a 30 Hz test tone , then listen all around using a stethoscope with the bell removed or a length of 1/4" tubing. You can download a test tone on the 'net, or use the CD supplied by Rick Cobb with his refoam kits.

For the ports to function properly, the rest of the cabinet must be well sealed. As Duff suggests, you'll likely find that the missing corners will have to be filled. Just cut some small blocks of wood and glue them flush in those locations, and the closed-cell foam tape will complete the seal.... :thmbsp:

I wonder if anyone has tried these QSC waveguides???

They look a lot like the ones in my CV CLSC 215's:scratch2:

They fit a 6 1/2" mid and a 1.4 inch compression driver...

My CV's uses a Vifa 25 dome tweeter and a 6 1/2" mid range...

I have spare CV tweets and mid ranges:scratch2:

The Vifa tweeter designed for the CV waveguide has a 1.49 OD

For $30.00 each Im tempted to order some of these to play with:thmbsp:

I could us a CV crossover and add L pads... No worries about CD compensation...

Also a little OT would it be worthwhile to add a coil to the bottom woofer on the CV's???

Their crossed over at 280 Hz, two 8 ohm 15's wired parallel. What choke would I use for say 90 Hz???

I think Im gonna try hooking them up to the stock CV 4.5 Khz tweeter crossovers with the woofer hooked up direct...

I know it's not gonna be right but I just gotta start playing with these

How critical is it that the resistors are raised off from the circuit board? I got antsy and didn't read the directions and placed them directly on the board. I have a few other things I need from Parts Express and could probably order a couple more while I'm at it. Their cheap anyways.

Not critical, it just provides a bit of air circulation under them if they get warm from cranking the system, improving their dissipation ability.

If they are used in sound reinforcement, they may get hot, for example. Wayne quadruples them for this reason, but nobody here has yet confirmed the necessity of that for use at home where high SPL is not so sustained....

I see some others have the Barzilays. I picked up a pair off Ebay and am getting them ready. Can i get away with one 4" port per cabinet? I`m running Le14a drivers and the cabs are approx 5 cu ft. i`m planning to line the insides with fibreglass insulation and add a couple of braces. Does anyone have any other advice?

One 4" will likely work. Run it in a box modeling program tuned to 30 Hz to determine the correct length.... :yes:

Braces are a must with the Barzilay cabinets. The company built furniture so their cabinet designs left a bit to be desired. The designs I have seen are beautiful though.

I documented earlier in the thread one way to make removable (so you can still get the baffles in and out) braces for Barzilays using Simpson construction connectors.... :yes:

Actually, the console is a newcomer to the living room, and all my A/V components are well-contained, at present, in the entertainment center. And I still have to put new shelving inside the console.

That's certainly a good idea. I also need to add bracing inside the cabinet; I was finally able to put some good wattage to them this morning and I could feel the cabinets vibrating...:nono:. Kinda makes me want to run a 30Hz tone to them, line them up next to the washing machine on spin cycle, and have a race!

(Okay, they're not that bad. But yes, our washer is of the peripatetic variety.)
