Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

Similost, the larger JBL waveguide and BMS 4555 is a fabulous combination. I have a pair of Altec Santana cabinets (my avatar) with LE14A woofers and the described HF combo, and they are keepers for sure. Nobody could talk me out them, period.

You will love them too. :music::yes:

I kept reading around, and then noticed a graph Zilch had of the 4555 on these, then Duffinator showed me his with the same horn combination and swears by it. I've been looking for the right woofer, and while I know the JBL is a fantastic driver, I wanted something brand new, and I kept coming across the TD15M drivers as being pretty spectacular. I've talked to a few people that have them, and they swear by them..

Soooo.... When ever I can get those ordered.. I gotta get my truck in the shop this weekend, and I'm not spending more until I find out what that's gonna cost me.. last time it was almost a grand int he shop :(

As you see, I still have some old relics around, as well....

I would expect you too.. You seem a little like me in ways.. why get rid of it because you already have it, and never know when you might need it again.. LOL

Oh yeah.. Forgot to mention... Imagine how much fun you're gonna have trying to answer all my stupid questions about porting and crossover parts.. :D

Not Me!

As you see, I still keep some old relics around, as well....

Is that a 511 or 811? Doesn't matter, I got rid of mine (811 with 808-8A) as soon as I heard a pair of JBL 2345's with 2420's on them... Still have those, and various fog horns as well. It just might be time to unload a few since the WG's sound so much better!

I've deprived the world of much excellent hifi in that fashion. Time to up my game and sell the Heil AMT1s and JBL LE8T.....

In order to use the rear screen I have to position the front grille in the stock orientation. If I do that there's not a lot of clearance to move the waveguide forward of the woofer. The farther forward I put the waveguide, the lower it can be and the smaller the center to center distance. I'll have to see if the compromise of having the waveguide higher and farther back is worth it to have the back screen installed. This will take some measuring to see where the forward lobs goes when the waveguide is moved. I'd like to have the back screen on but not if it compromises performance significantly. I will be using the front grilles, but they need to be disassembled and refinished and new cloth installed. A project for later...

It should look great when finished, always liked the looks of those.

Um.. I thought we had figured out that the 15" will work better for me because of the size box I'm using Zilch? I think someone that ran the numbers for me said I would need a box about half the size of what I have if I were to go with the 12"..

Oh.. and actually, it belongs in Barter Town or in the paid classifieds..

OH.. and I had to laugh at that picture Zilch.. You've only been trying for how many years now to get me away from those horns? Well I will still keep them though  just listened to them last night matter a fact while I was working an amp..

I still listen to mine as well......:music:

I was thinkin' about MY project, of course. ;)

I haven't run the numbers on either yet, but I'll get to that shortly, 'cause I'm gonna order too....

Hot Damn!!!!

Step two is completed.. I've got a pair of Lambda TD15M's with the Apollo motor upgrade on the way!!!!!

I'm STOKED!!!!

Just gotta order the horn drivers now.. and figure out how to get to my table saw to build some baffles..

Awesome James, can't wait to hear them once they are together. Good luck getting to that table saw....may have to recruit some help to get to that side of the garage.

So what are you gonna build next Zilch? You looking at a pair of AE drivers too?

So did you give my questions about the radiators any thought? I figure I'll cut a new back board and mount them in there and see what happens.. worst I can do is take the passive back out and cut some holes in the front baffle..

They'll be going in the Parts Express Dayton KD Trapezoid cab kits; I'm lining up a bunch of woofer options for those here.

You're gonna have to link me to your inquiry about passive radiators, 'cause it's not triggering any recollection.... :dunno:

Step one achieved. Aren't they pretty?

Now I just need to order the drivers for them.. then the woofers.. gonna hopefully be next week for the 4555's...

Sweet. I see you're going all out on your project. I doubt you'll be disappointed with them.

Thanks to you I am.. After I saw your pair and heard how much you like them and saw the sheets on that horn combination, I couldn't resist.. I just thought I would go with a different woofer though because I didn't want to mess with any used woofers and have to refoam and such... I've heard nothing but great things about the Lambda drivers from quite a few people so we'll see..

Inspired by Similost, I just ordered a pair of those 1.5 inch waveguides. There are now 4 in stock. Think I'll get a pair of the BMS 4555's also.

Itching to upgrade.

Actually Duffinator was my inspiration for the 4555 on those guides.. and after I saw the measurement sheet on them Zilch posted, I was really sold..

The really big experiment will be trying a passive radiator build with Lambda drivers.. man oh man can I not wait to get my hands on those. Should have them next week.

BTW.. this is FAR FAR from being ECONO... Once I get the parts and get busy I'll start a new thread...

thanks for that Zilch.. I'm doing good to figure out how to even attach the wires, then you start adding these kinds of considerations.. geegsh..
