well.. considering they are calling for a 3cuft box closed with heavy fill, then once you add the horn to the 4ft box.. you would probably be OK.. just fill it real heavy,

I don't know anything about that woofer though... Not much xmax on that at all for being a woofer though, and to me,, calling a woofer pro, and it's only $45 just don't kinda jive...
 
I am looking at the Goldwood 15" gw-1558 pro audio speaekrs as a substitute.

Try to dig up a frequency response curve for the woofer. Many of the pro woofers behave very poorly above a certain point and the specs listed (30-something to 2500 Hz) may be +/- 10 dB (you can bet your life it isn't +/- 3 dB). At least the FR curve would help you figure out how much of a fight you may be in for to tame it via crossover. Of course this may not be a big deal if you have the measurement gear and like to experiment with crossovers.

Using a 15 is a challenge to begin with. 1600 Hz is pretty high and the better behaved 15s are not cheap (JBL 2226 for example). You may have much better luck using a 12 due to frequency response and your box size. Many more choices...

I'm trying to stuff a 15" into a 4.5ft box, and it's a very high end pro woofer, and it's not a easy chore trying to get it all figured out.. Lots of woofer, not enough box, and maybe not gonna hit as low as I like.. BUT... I'm either gonna fail miserably, and be pissed I spent so much, or have one hell of a great sounding box... but I keep questioning my sanity through the whole ordeal..

Those the Barzilays? I am doing the same thing with a set of Barzilays. I have figured out how to add about 1.25 cubic feet, and that might help, but I still think it will only get down to that 50hz range. And yeah, I am almost insane on this now.
 
Yeah.. same box as you... You can tune the box lower than 50hz.. and I bet the driver you have now will go below 50hz... just not sure at what level.. you have the numbers for it.

Yes, I do know how I can add some space on the back, but I'm thinking it's not worth the effort.. I'm just gonna tune a little lower and be careful I don't go pushing 400w into them.. :D

I will tell you this though.. GOOD LUCK fitting a 15" driver and a wave guide into the baffle..

I've got mine cut, and the ONLY way it's happening is putting the woofer on the rear of the baffle, and the guide on the front. They will still be overlapping by about 1/8".. and I'm going to have to add a brace on the rear of the baffle between the woofer and the horn...
 
I actually have one comp;letely assembled and running now. Yep, the waveguide and woofer are overlapping about 1/8". I still haven't added the needed bracing or the pirts for tuning - maybe later today.

No, I don't have the numbers on my drivers. I got them for almost free - they are stout and can really punch out some base, just not sure of what the bottom end looks like. I am expected over at scuzzers place in a bit. Later today, I'll post pics of the inside of the cabinet with the drivers installed.


Question, on mine, I could not get the wood grill to stop buzzing. I tried a lot of different things. Have you had a problem with that yet?

I took my grills out. It was a difficult decision.

I've played with the Dayton DC250 10" woofer and it performs well. Goes down around 40hz in 1.6 cu ft sealed. The 12" DC-300 is a bit more efficient and Zilch is going to or has posted the ideal crossover. That would be my recommendation for a budget 12" woofer. Not as efficient as pro gear, but goes deeper in smaller cabinet.
 
I haven't put mine together or tried them yet. I'm still building the front baffles..

The front baffle needs to fit very tight against the grill.. If not, You could try putting some very thin foam tape around the edge of the baffle where it seats up against the grill.. Also, did you recess the wave guide? It will need to sit below the baffle edge and not touch the grill. Screws included...

I'm using Lambda TD15M with the Apollo motor on them..
 
The DC300-8 will likely work very well. Some of the iterations Zilch has worked through are due to the small size of the trap cab. VAS on the DC300 is pretty large. I'm running DC300's in cabs w/ ~2.4 cu ft internal w/ a 2 x 2 port. The model gives 29 Hz tuning w/ 34 Hz -3dB. Port resonance well above the standard Ewave crossover frequency. Also not much money for the experiment.

I have loved my mobile test rack since putting it together a few months ago, but always was dissatisfied with the CD player having only three choices, and being so sensitive to vibrations. The rack was just updated by replacing the CD player with a computer, which at present holds 208 LP's in WAV form. All the LP's were stored and declicked from my collection.

And the woofer tester (WT2) that was purchased long ago has been incorporated in the computer, as well as a couple future programs which will be added as recommended by the Zilchster. Sounds like another learning experience coming up.

Very nice, I am green with envy. If only I can finish my measurment system!

Looks like quite a nice selection of woofers hanging on the wall behind there, too...! :thmbsp:

And a Nikko pre amp just like the first seperate preamp I owned. Still doing duty in a friend's secondary system.

Okay I give up - I have been working on my ewave for a couple of weeks now and have come to the beliefe the woofers I have just won't fly for me. They are an old set of CTS 15" with 6" square magnets. They do really well, but just don't go quite low enough.

I played with it on winsd and thought the graph looked pretty decent. It is going into a 4 cubic foot box. ANyone here try this woofer? How does it do? Will it sound like the graph says?

ANyfeedback on this woofer would be appreciated.

While how low do they go is important, more important to E'wave is how well it plays up around 1200-1600 hz. If it wont reach the e'wave, lack of bass would only be a secondary problem. On the cheap, lots of work being done by Zilch on the 10 and 12 inch Dayton woofers. Very reasonable in cost.

IME, the Goldwood 1558 should reach 1500 Hz OK. They seem to be pretty well behaved, with decent response and a lack of annoying breakup modes up there. I haven't measured one meticulously, but from using them as replacements in various PA speakers, they have done well... I haven't had any problem with them NOT having enough midrange extension, even in speakers with 2K or 2.5K crossover points...

Time to experiment tonight...

My 4555's just came in, so after I get home tonight I'll mount them up to the guides and set them on my JBL's. Granted, they will be on a N2400 network, but at least it will give me an idea of what this whole waveguide sound is about..

BTW.. anyone know what the screw holes on these are? Are they 1/4" thread. or are they #10? Looks to be a fine thread? Maybe 32 pitch?
 
The BMS 4555 mounting holes are M6.

Curious if you bought them from Assistance Audio or U.S. Speaker?

I need to buy a pair.

I got mine from US Speaker.. M6.. as in 6mm?

BTW... they almost make my old Altec 902 drivers look kind of cheap... Some very nicely machined metal on these..
