My 4555's just came in, so after I get home tonight I'll mount them up to the guides and set them on my JBL's. Granted, they will be on a N2400 network, but at least it will give me an idea of what this whole waveguide sound is about..

BTW.. anyone know what the screw holes on these are? Are they 1/4" thread. or are they #10? Looks to be a fine thread? Maybe 32 pitch?

Is it just me, or looking at the response curves for the BMS drivers - do they need much compensation? No that's not aimed toward you Similost... :)

I'm contacting Assistance Audio today....tax season and all....hehe
 
Where are you seeing a response curve on them rage? I'm sure you do need a fair amount of compensation though.. they are rated at 118/1w/1m. Zilch says his modified M19 crossover works pretty well on them..
 
Actually, the 4555 is a 1.5".. I saw some numbers Zilch had run quite a long time back, and they looked pretty smooth with what he was running..

That, and if I remeber correctly, Zilch and Skywave rider found a HF spike that had to be tamed via a tank filter or some such circuit. Dont know if necessary for the larger format BMS drivers or not. I'm sure Zilch knows. I guess I'm going to have to start another project here, may as well try to get these waveguides now, I'm NEVER going to get my other projects done like this!:sigh:

You're going to have to drill new holes in the waveguide flanges to accept the BMS bolt pattern. Use the location and spacing of the existing ones as your guide. Having a rattail file is useful. :yes:

There is no spike with this combo, if I recall correctly. I'll have to confirm.... :dunno:

This never ends does it? I'm shuffling funds around to try to buy heat sinks for another project AND these 4555 drivers! Did a group buy ever happen?
Perhaps I should just concentrate on getting the 1.5" JBL guides first, then worry about the drivers. All my Horn/Guides are 1" format.

Interesting. I didn't know the mounting holes on each didn't line up... No big deal though.. and yeah.. I got files..

And no Russell... it never ends... but it sure seems to be wiping out my bank account pretty fast so I is ending for me.. I can buy altec horns and drivers cheaper than I got these guides and drivers for... I imagine the sound difference is that same night and day difference too.. at least I sure hope so...

BTW.. I had to take the back off one of the 4555's and look... I was pretty shocked at how small the phram and voice coil was, especially for being rated for so much wattage..
 
Oh.. and if you want those guides.. you better try now.. When I got mine in, they got 10 pair.. last I heard a week or two ago, they were down to 4 pair..

Go to US Speakers to get your 4555's.. they are $159 each there.. I got mine shipped for $338 for the pair.

What makes you want the 4452 instead of the 4555? From what I'm seeing the 4555 offeres a much smoother response, although granted, the guides for them are more than the average 1" guide.. Even the DSS guides in 1.5" aren't cheap..

Well All righty then... I'm sold!!!

This is what Zilch would have wished I had done in the first place I bet...

I slapped on LA Woman, from the new Doors box set...

The very first thing I noticed first song first side.. .the bass drum pedal squeeks... Never heard that before..

I can't wait to here these with the Lambdas I bet that's gonna friggin rock, especially with a crossover at a lower point than what I have them on now.. I've got them on N2400's and have the pads down pretty low..

Lemme ask this Zilch.. With the M19 crosses, will I have more control over the volume of the horns? Even with the l-pads turned down on this, they horns over power the D123's. Much more sensitive..
 
We will make whatever adjustments are necessary.

As I said earlier, that will likely include a fixed L-pad before the compression driver to move the balance into an optimum adjustment range.... :yes:
 
Yeah... Once I get my boxes together I'm sure it will be a LOT different than what I'm hearing here, but I do gotta admit.. it's pretty sweet without any tuning and just trying out these drivers.. thankfully I've got an EQ on the system too.. had to really mess around with that..
