liberal arts boy here is getting ready to start solderin' up the jbl l14a variant of the ewave crossover. in the instructions, i come to part c) Jumpers. i believe that i understand that you take trimmed sections of lead from other components and use them to form loops soldered in so that J1A is connected to hole J2A and so on until all three of the J's are connected A to B.

is that correct? and wish me luck on this, my most sophisticated solderin' project yet...

Order up and get in the backorder queue. They're never going to have them in sufficient quantity unless the demand is clear.

Parts Express sells QSC. If Deluxe takes off, we need to lean on them to start stocking the waveguide.... :thmbsp:

Got a long way toward the three E-wave theater speakers for Anime Weekend Atlanta yesterday. Three 3.25 ft^3 cabinets built, ports installed, painted.

Test-fired one of them... they're using a modified (reconed by me, with the same cone/dustcap as I frequently use on 15" woofers in E-waves) Behringer "800 watt" (2.5" voice coil) 15" woofer per cabinet. Had a little bit of excessive rising response... which was easily dealt with by using a 2mh coil and a 10uf cap with a 22uf/10 ohm Zobel on the woofer... sort of between the "standard" low-pass and the values for the LE14. When compensated that way, the LF sensitivity is about 94dB@ 1w... so, the "regular" E-wave high-pass crossover was used, and works very well. Dynamics are outstanding, and balance is very smooth. With nearly 900 watts, total, available among the amps driving the three speakers, and another 600 watts on a pair of matching 15" subs, this should be quite the slammin' system! :D

Now to get the last of the three crossovers built, and the three cabinets put together!

I have an extra pair of Cerwin-Vega 12tr cabs and drivers and I was thinking about using them to do an e-wave but I'm not sure how to go about doing the crossover and such which might be a pain considering the 12tr is a 4-way design with lpads for the mid, tweeter, and rear horn... guess I will have to post pics and spec of the crossover and such...

A few questions about the crossover:
I read a post somewhere that mentioned the crossover doing something specific for the chosen hf driver and horn being used, in terms of getting an even frequency response over a wide area. Would it be possible to get the same flat response with an active crossover?

I would like to use an active crossover to get the most out of the woofers but i'm not sure if it will work as well as the custom crossover designed for the ewave...

Is it possible to have them shipped to the UK?

Do they come as kits or only as a PCB?

Jack and I both worked with running the eWave HF comp on an active crossover, and found that it worked, but only over a narrow range of frequencies, reason being that part of that comp is accomplished by beginning the highpass rolloff at a higher frequency with a specific slope, all optimized for the Selenium D220Ti. The same can be accomplished with a dsp crossover such as DCX2496, but you'll have to work out the details.

I believe the answer in your situation is to passively biamp using the stock crossover, which is designed with that capability. Using separate amps, you can dial the woofer around as desired, and optimize the lowpass section accordingly, employing standard methods.

Something has been bugging me and need to know an answer if anyone can help. How important is port resonance when building a box for the dc300-8?

3cu ft tuned to 30hz (4" port 9.56" long)
1st port resonance @ 707.47hz
or
3cu ft tuned to 35hz (3.5" port 4.46" long)
1st port resonance @ 1515.51hz
Air velocity is below 20m/s for both

Does this even matter if I we're to crossover at 80hz?
