Econowave rocks a gallery grand opening!

The Wired Econowave build went on loan for a post-band dance party as well as the following 2 weeks in-store usage. Folks asked where the subwoofer was. Said they "sounded great!" and wondered "Where can I get a pair?" A couple people want to build 'em up. Customers said they were "Beautiful", preferring the grills off. I'll probably build up a new version for the next opening they have. :thmbsp:

Not such a good day. My friend George was going to come over this morning and we were going to build the Open Baffle Line Array eWaves, but he is sick in bed and I partied until the break of dawn with a group of expats so needless to say, we didn't build the eWave-O-Arrays.

Looks awesome! That's a great showcase for DIY.
I spent the weekend at Maker Faire Detroit, manning the Make Magazine table. I didn't have speakers there - too close to the band shell - but I had my Squelette chip amp (issue #23) on display.
I talked to dozens of motivated DIY-ers and met some great people.

Maker Faire is a blast. I wanted to be there for the meetup but couldn't swing plane ticket costs for this weekend. Instead I'll be flying on a red eye to DTW this Wednesday to hang with my folks in Ann Arbor for a week and half.

Gonna finally E-Wave my dad's crappy old AR2's! :thmbsp:

Maybe we can grab a beer w/ DNewman if its not too far to drive.
 
Has anyone done a D'Appolito WTW yet? With a pair of high eff 16ohm 10's to reduce the C to C spacing should take care of the vertical nulls Wayne was demonstrating a year ago. Maybe these are Ewaveable?.......

I'm not sure if there's value here all the way around as a pair is online price wise with the 3012HO/LE......but there is more sensitivity to be had, a closer C to C spacing and the vertical null thing. Less bass for sure but i'm assuming adequate sub-woofage of course.

Hoping to be a cerified E-waver soon enough...just need the right (errr....different?) variant for my space.

Cool Wired. How did they fill that large of a space?

Wow. If oerllikon (the guy who wanted to modify his C-V E-715s, as in this thread: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=312482 ) is reading this, THIS horn/driver combination and high-pass crossover for the horn/driver, would be a VERY GOOD starting point for use with that CV 15" woofer...

I had a WTW setup a while back (using a pair of 5inchers above and another below the waveguide T). A problem is that the spacing between just the two woofers becomes a factor in making nulls, too. Using 10s above and below will give a C to C spacing between those of about 16 inches, making the flat vertical range pretty narrow.

Even with a low XO point of say 1.4khz?

After watching Wayne P's video on the subject, the systems center would be much larger with the vertical pattern of the WG would now be on the edge of the bottom AND top of the WG.......with a 9" wavelength and a 10" driver i think it might be doable:yes: It would require the woofer's edge be right on the cusp of the guide frame though.
 
In the video, Wayne is showing the location of the nulls at near their maximum depth. If you choose -6 dB each direction as the usable range, the height of the forward lobe is considerably less.... :yes:

At 1kHz, one half-wavelength is about 6 inches. That means that if you are 6 inches closer to one woofer than the other at some vertical position, then the woofers will cancel each other almost completely, and since that's below crossover, the tweeter won't be helping much. With woofers 16 inches apart, you won't have to be very far off the tweeter axis vertically to have a 6 inch difference in path lengths between you and the two woofers.....

I thought it would act like one big woofer, but it isn't -- it's two not-quite-as-big woofers with a big space between them, causing nulls when measured off the vertical axis.

How and with what are you guys mounting your crossovers?

I snip sections of 1/4" plastic water line sourced from the hardware store to make stand-offs. #6 phillips head sheet metal screws of the appropriate length complete the install...
 
To those using the Parts Express trap cabs, did you use anything other than wood glue to seal up the seams? Did you silicone the joints after the cab was built? Or is that not necessary?
