Disappointments with EWave designs are few and far between, it should work out great.:thmbsp:

Mike: Thanks alot for for your encouragement. Sorry that I haven't replied sooner. I find it interesting that you (4343) responded to my comment. I've read with special interest your posts about your dual 8in (4ohm) Cerwin Vegas w/8in JBL WG 2.5way Ewave and your reply to someone else about the implementation of 2.5way XO's in general. I have a couple other questions. I'll post again when I'm sure exactly how to phrase the question(s) I'd like an answer to.

I am picking up a set of JBL 4530 scoops tomorrow. ANyone ever ewave a set of scoops?
I would search this thread, but I would like to know before I retire. What are we at, some 11k posts? OMG!

Anyway, I have several 15" drivers I could use. One set is from a seeburg jukebox. That combo looks pretty good.

No reason it shouldn't work in a 4530 scoop. I'd be looking for a woofer with similar specifications to a JBL 2205A or 2225H. Those are the woofers JBL seemed to like to use in those, the most.

Though, do keep in mind- a scoop is a midbass horn. Not a sub. Not much below 50 Hz. You will probably want a sub to go along with it.

I just sold my scoops Saturday. About a year ago I put the eWave set up on top of them. It made a great combo. I had the JBL 2225 woof. There is a local guy that did the eWave thing with his scoops with the horn in the scoop mouth. That worked very well for him as he was in a very small room.

The scoops really die out at 50hz though, but they can kick like a mule if needed and have a very large sound.

I thought the low end suffered on these. So a good sub with an xover of maybe 60-80hz would be a great compliment to these. Hmm...........

BTW - the woofs I am looking at trying are supposed to be able to go to 18hz. Are the low end limitiation due to the box construct? Or is it a combination of box and driver creating the limitations?

Post the T/S parameters of the drivers, the volume of the enclosure and the port diameter and length if you don;t mind. I'll be able to sim with a fair amount of accuracy the LF extension and rolloff of your woofers.

One word of warning: The first chamber behind the driver is VERY shallow so if you have a deep driver you will play hell getting it in there. I have heard of some cutting holes in the first back chamber to fit the motor cover through.
 
They are horns, not reflexes, and small ones. Extended bass drivers have no advantage, and are generally not well suited for use in these.... :no:

Yes I liked them a lot but only after I stuffed them. At that point you are better off just building vented cabs in stead of a complex horn. They look very cool but we are now, as of today, in forclosure so will be heading off to an appartment and don't have the space. PS. not sad about the house, it is just another adventure.

No, not what I'm saying. They are best thought of as midbass bins. The driver is up top and up front, ideal, actually, for mating with waveguide high frequency.

As others have pointed out, however, their ability to play extended bass is limited, and drivers designed to do that in other alignments are not well-suited to use in them. The only way to get that is to augment with subs.

The sum of all of that is to select the woofer based upon doing what THIS alignment does best, i.e., midbass, and the requisite parameters may be ascertained from attention to those drivers known to work well in them.

Duke is a friend of EconoWave and has posted in this thread. Several of his products comprise the first commercial implementation of the designs taught here.... :thmbsp:

That's an interesting driver you have there......DEFINATELY a subwoofer and not suitable to reach up to an Ewave .......you'd need a midrange to bridge the gap. Not very efficient either. I'd suggest active cross and amplification to whatever you choose. Here's the Bass sim......this baby digs DEEP!:yes:
