Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

I suggest you contact QSC customer support directly; I do know that the current part number is different, including an integral gasket.

Parts Express is a QSC distributor, and if enough of us leaned on them, the 152i waveguide might appear as a new Dayton offering.... :yes:

That is the same part number I ordered and received in August (it had changed twice that I know of before that). And the bit about "You must have a valid serial number to order this part. If you don't not have a valid serial number, you will not be able to order this part." sounds rather firm.

It might be time for us to start leaning on Parts Express...

BTW, how much were the EighteenSound XT1086 when you got them? Is that a good (though more expensive) alternate?

If HPR series is discontinued and they are not using the waveguide in current product, it does not make sense for QSC to continue offering the waveguides only as a component for $12.50; they were spending that much just in packing them for shipment. What DOES make sense is selling them by the palletfull to Parts Express, or better yet, licensing the design and access to the tooling.

Yes. I hope PE or another manufacturer licenses the 152i waveguide. It's a fine product and I'm sure the DIY and SR community will buy them for some time to come.

Unfortunately for us, the speaker manufacturers will go to molded/integrated baffle waveguides which is not necessarily a boon for DIY.

I might be a bit late to the table in discovering this Econowave speaker. I have to say I really like the concept and had decided on a similar build before I knew about it.

RCF ND1411-M driver?

Has anyone tried the RCF ND1411-M driver on an Ewave horn? I thought I read somewhere here that the exit angle on the RCF drivers matched the angles on the QSC waveguide better than the B&C DE250 did. Or do I have that backwards?
I really wish the Search feature of this forum was more usable..
 
I am looking to build 4 surrounds that are similar to the surround wedges that stgdz built...HERE

I want to keep the woofer cost down to below $50 and I am thinking 8" in size to make them a bit less bulky.

I also was going with the Standard eWave crossover and CD/horn combo.

Any suggestions on the 8" woofer?

I was looking at these:

Eminence Alpha-8A - $44.97

Selenium 8PW3 - $40

Dayton RS225 - $46

I am anticipating the enclosure will be as small as I can make it. I have separate subwoofers and these will likely end up crossed over at 80Hz at the receiver.

The Dayton has a WICKED breakup mode that would require almost as much in XO components to get where it needs to be as the cost of the driver itselt.....skip it.

The Selenium and the Eminence both have the needed eff and power handling to get the job done, but are very low freq limited....which is OK for surriound duty.

A woofer that does both and is pretty cheap is the Silver Flute W20RC38

Does really well on the bass side as well in a small ported box. Pretty efficient at 91db and a smoothe 'papery' response to reach up to the Ewave CD combo.

There's also some work over at PE on the Ewave mini and other threads using these Klipsch 6.5" buyout woofers. One member is doing a parallel pair on the horizontal below the 152/220i combo that would make for an excellent surround, but you gotta hurry as the sale on these ends 11/15

Zilch has got the breakup squashed pretty effectively to work at 2.2khz.....and would be even easier at 1.6hz.

Greetings to all, and great thread. I've been following this thread for a while now, and am trying to decide what to e-wave. I've got a pair of Boston A100 that could use a re foam, but are otherwise pristine. I've been looking for a pair of two way cerwin vegas, but it just hasn't come through yet.

Has anyone near St. Louis Mo. built e-waves yet? Any way I could come mooch a listen? I'm thinking of building some for H/T, but I'm a bit reluctant to build 7 of anything I haven't heard. This would be a significant cost and pretty big project. As recently mentioned, an 8" woofer seems like the ticket. Those silver flutes at madisound seem almost too good to be true. Anybody heard them?
