Anyone in the Cincinnati, OH area willing to "audition" their Econowaves to me before I make the decision to build some. I like all the expletives about these speakers, but I'm also a "hear, before I buy" type of guy. I can bring some special cold beverages to consume while listening to the Ewaves. :D

You would think I would have a lot on the plate, but it will be really slow between now and the first of the year. It will only take me a couple hours to put them together....no a problem. Look forward to hearing the ESS-eWaves.
 
Zilch, did you ever get around to testing the Celestion CDX1-1731 CD? I just wonder how it compares to the Seleniums and B&E's you've tested. Thanks!
 
Am I the only one that bought some of the Klipsch buyouts thinking there would be some threads about them?

Now I have 8 drivers and nothing to build...I guess I jumped the gun. :tears:

I can build from a list but I dont have the time to figure out all of the background design at this time...maybe in 10 to 15 years. :music:

Yes, over on Tech Talk, like Skywave says, E-Wave 10e as I recall, the 1425. The SPL desired was high, so I stuck with the minimum recommended crossover frequency, up around 2 kHz, which made for a narrow vertical lobe on the round (10.25") waveguide.

The driver itself sounds quite nice, and I wouldn't hesitate to try a couple of other lower SPL designs with it, whereas 1731 bypasses all of that with thread-on throat and higher SPL capability, and sounds equally good. Most of my recent work with it has been in the E-Wave Mini thread over there. Duke did the basic research on that driver, and found it, actually, so out of respect for him, and the fact that he is first to commercialize EconoWave as a commercial product, even if unwittingly, with his Rhythm Prisms, I'll not be using them with the standard eWaveguide.

It took major cajones to defy Geddes's scathing initial analysis of EconoWave, and I want to make it clear that Duke and his company deserve special props from E-Wavers everywhere for stepping up with actual product and innovative design. I have never spoken or otherwise communicated with him directly, but I hope Duke accepts my personal tribute in this spirit listing him as "Collaborator" here.... :thmbsp:

I have aquired some KLH model sixes that I am thinking about recapping or....Ewaving. Has anyone done Model sixes yet. What is required as far as crossovers go and are the proper waveguides in stock anywhere?

Replace toggle switch with L-pad keeping original tweeter?

I have 2 pairs of NLA Advents that I am going to upgrade/mod, the 1st pair, I am going to only replace the crossover and keep stock for a reference. The second pair, I will do the full Econo-Wave upgrade/mods.

The crossover parts I have already ordered for the "stock" Advent are:

027-450 Dayton DFFC-0.01 0.01uF 400V By-Pass Capacitor
091-1245 Dayton BPA-38G HD Binding Post Pair Gold
005-1 Mills 1 Ohm 12W Non-Inductive Resistor
005-1.5 Mills 1.5 Ohm 12W Non-Inductive Resistor
027-236 Dayton PMPC-6.2 6.2uF 250V Precision Audio Capacitor

I'm probably missing a similiar post, but believe me, I have searched and searched and could not find any information on how to do this.
Is there information, especially a schematic, on what is needed to replace the toggle switchs with an L-pad or similiar control?

We've been E-waving for going on three years, now, and given it's popularity as a design concept, and its collaborative open format with full presentation of technical details, we can fully expect examples of similar approaches, both old and new, to rise into more prominent view. Clearly, there is no dearth of design expertise on the E-Wave team, and as we continue in-depth exploration of the core concepts ourselves, this work is available to everyone, including commercial manufacturers.

There's no denying that some others working with these concepts have the requisite chops (and better, even, perhaps,) as well, and my own attitude is already stated and clear with respect to this issue -- DIY is not everybody's most favored approach, and there is plenty of room for exploration by others, even those with commercial exploitation as a primary motivation, and I believe everyone's efforts deserve respect for whatever result those might yield, and all implementations are subject to similar scrutiny with respect to their merits.

Nobody "owns" EconoWave -- we have offered it free to all, and continue to explore and support it with unprecedented passion here and elsewhere. It's all good, and all welcome -- that's what we do, as has been so since the very outset of this work. :thmbsp:


I thought that too, but then started wondering if it really matters. If the sitting position is 15 feet away, can you really hear the effects of the greater distance between woof and horn?
It depends upon the height of the forward lobe and the locus of the forward axis relative to the listening height.

Answer: yes, it matters.... :yes:

I should rephrase my question...I would like to replace the DPDT switch with an L-pad type rotory switch or other rotary type switch so as to have more control, that is, in the pair of NLA Advents that I will be keeping the original tweeter.
I am doing one pair stock (for reference), the other Econo-Wave.
I understand how to put it into the schematic, but will the 8 ohms of the L-pad be too much for the circuit, is another type of switch more appropriate, or do I not need to worry about it and just put the L-pad into the circuit?

Once again, haha, Zilch has done some work over on Tech Talk with those; I think he may have more planned. Not sure. I bought four of those; planning to do a 2.5 way design. No I don't have a crossover yet.

I can't keep track of that many threads with that many pages...I didn't see any progress on the 6.5" buyouts. Did we even find any information to try to model an enclosure for the woofers?

I suppose I will just order a few HF sections and some crossover bits and start putting together a few things. Maybe some noise is better than none?

I thought Zilch had FRD and ZMA files over there for importing into crossover design software, but maybe there are no TS parameters posted. I should be able to put one of the Klipsch buyouts on WT for data to determine box info.
