Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

You can unsolder a cap from one of the other boards and jumper it.

If you sent me a x-o I would unsolder a leg of the cap or caps and measure capacitance. I could run a FR test of the crossover connected to the driver/WG, too. BTW, I have an original EWave x-o here, not the EWave Standard.

If you want to check the caps yourself, there are some cheap DMMs available.

Has anyone used the Dayton Audio DATS, (Dayton Audio Test System)?
I'm curious how well everything works, that certainly looks like something I want.

I've used other peoples WT3, but never bought my own but wanted one, everything
that new setup promises is just killer looking icing on the cake if it actually works well.
(most of us have other pieces we use for a lot of that, but an all in one would be nice)

Ok, I don't know how much this will tell you but out of curiosity, I took one of the ewaves (as in with xo inline) and plugged it in upstairs to my SR5003 and ran a 500hz-20khz sweep and this is the resulting graph...

MUCH better than downstairs. Does this tell you anything? I don't think Audyssey was engaged for this test either, this AVR is a bit different than the SR5005, but it looks like EQ is off. Either way, the results are more pleasing, right?

Nope, you've changed your graph scale, but it's a perfect match to your previous measurements (except for a few different reflections at the low end). If anything, this tells us that your room is not a big problem for these measurements above the crossover point.

I'm a little taken back by this... they track very similar, I agree, but the high end, from 5khz up, shows much less of a downward slope in the new graph. This is what I'm concerned with I thought. Also, the only thing "scale wise" that changed was the right scale now shows (deg) when before it didn't, not sure why that happened :headscrat

They are both 1/12 octave though.

Here they are back to back...

Also, the lower end, from 1khz down is better in my new graph because I was running them with the woofer as well, when downstairs was compression driver only I take it?

It's definitely better, now only 10db difference from 2k to 15k verse 20db before.

But still "trending" the same and shouldn't be like that, is that also with that level
pot turned all the way up? If so there is something certainly wrong going on there.

Edit: okay at first I thought the previous one you were showing was no-crossover, but it I don't think you did all three like that? Which one is that? The one you just posted does look better than that, BUT...

Here it is overlayed with all of your other measurements:

Sorry dump, I think we are confusing each other, lol. The previous graph with a single red line was my upstairs Paradigm, just to compare results with the ewave. The previous one to that with 3 lines was all three ewaves, compression driver only with no XO inline. I guess I shouldn't be comparing that graph with my new one, my bad.

I took a look at my recent graphs of the LCR, on axis with compression driver with XO in line and you're right, they track very similar, I feel like my graphs keep changing so much, it's getting confusing!

No, I mean what was the one with three you just posted in the back-to-back? It has more roll-off than all the others. Your new one is the same as all the others, it is the red line in my overlay above.

Ahh, yes I may have gotten confused as well.. :)

But, were still seeing a rollof that shouldn't be there none the less.

Okay good (sort of)! That means that for one thing, the measurements are all consistent so far, and for another thing, we've got a picture of what your crossover is doing above ~2kHz, and here it is:

Did you ever say whether these actually sound like the treble is weak? I mean, in most these measurements it looks like the L-pad is too high, but anyway.

You know what's weird? Your measurement without a crossover falls off faster than it should from about 5-6kHz up. Your measurement with crossover is a pretty close match to what it should look like without a crossover. I don't know what to make of that.

This is all too odd. I can't be certain but in general, the speakers do sound a bit lossy in the upper end, I've watched a few movie clips and there are definitely some crispness missing from the ewaves compared to my Paradigms.

Like I said, I can't be certain because I've never done a back to back comparison of the same movie slip between the two sets of speakers yet.
