Zu Audio Omen Dirty Weekends

Did anyone else get the accidental email the other day from Zu Audio about the clearance sale? Then an email about ten minutes later saying, “oops…not until tomorrow…”.

Yeah I got those! Someone at Zu got an ass-chewing I am sure! Gotta laugh… :-)

Price has increased 50%.

True, the elimination of the Dirty Weekend Mkii has resulted in a substantial increase in the cost of entry. Regular Omens are still cost effective to make. Though that's about to change as they are revamping their entry level speakers and coming out with new models. But, seeing a $999 tower speaker seems unlikely going forward.

They certainly went soon enough!!! In fairness those last two pairs were in either uprated finishes and / or cap upgrades, so yeah the price was up a touch. Given the lack of ODW on the used market, seems most folks are still digging theirs and hanging on to them.
The value proposition still stand I think for ODWs.

Mine aren't going anywhere. I really love these speakers. They do just about everything well. I had them sitting on a couple of ceramic tile squares with the feet height set at 12mm. This really helped the bass getting them up off the carpet. I just made a couple of quarter sawn white oak plinths for them and think it looks pretty good. Better than the tile squares at least.

I wonder what percentage of Dirty Weekends were Rustic Hickory, like yours, mine are the same. Mine will be sticking around too. Although sometimes I'd tempted to upgrade, but to me the Soul Supreme would be the next step, and that's north of $4k.

I really wanted to like the walnut finish, which I do on most speakers, but to me it looked just a bit odd on the DW's. I got the hickory because it perfectly matches the flexi racks I built a few years ago.

I have the Ghost Black Maple finish on Omen Def Mk2's in my cave, although the when I did the Radian and plinth upgrade they came in a dead black resin coated finish. I actually have walnut finish ODW in the lounge (the Mrs was the final arbiter).
Love your oak plinths on the DW's, really finishes them off. I might have to make some like that, need to think about seat height. Good excuse to go and sit on the couch and do that though :rflmao:

Can't see your pic... says that I don't have permissions to view it.

Can see it now, Zu really do a top job at fit and finish.

I imagine the overwhelming majority were rustic hickory. The price increase for the upgraded finishes was pretty substantial for a 1k pair of speakers. If I recall around the time I bought mine some of the finishes added as much as $500. Not to mention the price tag for the full custom automotive grade paint jobs, which would double the price for a pair of speakers.

I wanted the walnut personally, but I opted instead for hickory... specified a request for a "extra knotty" Hickories which they were happy to fulfill. :)
Couldn't be happier. Mine are going nowhere either. Will be 2 years in November and I like them more as time goes on.

The hickory seemed to be the best fit for my wife's preferences, so it was an easy choice being the next to least inexpensive also. Didn't think to ask for 'extra knotty'.
