I just love vu meters and was wondering if there is a product/way to add auxiliary meters to my Sansui AU that measures directly from the unit and not the ambient sound like the Douk sets

Does that Fosi unit get its signal directly from a source or is it through a microphone for ambient sound.

The problem with speaker-level VU meters is that they will deflect very little at low volumes, peg at higher volumes, or require constant trimming.
IME the better way to run added meters is using an un-mastered output such as TAPE-OUT so that they can be set to actual levels, I have used TASCAM/TEAC meter bridges to do so, I'm sure there are other options as well. If you don't have an un-mastered output, it's really not a VU meter, and you likely should have a different scale not dB.

Good catch, I'm not so sure now -*Fosi Audio | Hear The Unheard is the link to the meters that were on the site yesterday but not today. Notice the link says fosiaudiolab. The link that shows the meters today is *fosiaudio.com*. If it is a counterfeiter, than certainly Fosi is aware since their logo is on the home page.
The deal seems a bit too good to be true.
It depends on what you want. A true presentation of level/power or a couple of needles "flapping in the breeze"

Agree, meters for visual entertainment vs for actual measurement.
Presumably (I haven’t read the specs deeply) the FOSI meters are essentially voltmeters, estimating power into an 8 Ohm resistive load, and the 0dB mark is at 100W so for a 100W rated amplifier.
I am not intent on dissuading anyone from buying the FOSI unit, just making a clear distinction between these meters, accurate power meters, and VU meters, all of which have their own purpose.

i was really tempted by some of the kits on ebay
but then i found one of these locally
its ment to clip on to the front of a mitsubishi amp and be the face, but can be used with rca cables for any amp.
i use a wall wart to the power switch for the lights.
it is large, (16.7 × 6.7 × 4.9 inches) in width, height, and depth
the novelty wears off, i seldom use it anymore

You mean peak reading meters (which are not VU meters, which are more averaging, and not found in 99% of consumer equipment).
