The 2SA1116 and 2SC2607 are fine replacements, but the ST Micro's are excellent as well, and cost a lot less.
You are absolutely right about the price and you are the tech. so are the ST Micro's as good as the 1116/2607?
I have only had the chance to use the ST devices in a Kenwood L-07MII, whose original devices are very similar to the NMA1012 and NMC1012. Both the ST Micro devices, and the Sanken 2SA1116 & 2SC2607 are a bit slower than the original devices on the Kenwood and the Sansui 919 (but the ST Micro devices are faster than the Sanken A1116 & C2607).
Distortion is essentially unchanged from one device to the other, even at 20KHz (difference is small enough to be ignored). The spec that would really show improvement would be slew rate, which is not so easy to measure. Honestly, on the L-07MII that was here, I did not try to measure slew rate. Maybe next time I get a blown Sansui 919 or BA-F1, or another Kenwood L-07MII, I'll try to get a halfway accurate measure of slew rate.

Your best insurance is restoration including the replacement of the problematic parts that take those outputs out..
Once done, they should never fail unless it gets a power surge or you do something to cause it.
To answer your question, I believe Arrow Electronics has some left..

Yuk... That means they be all gone now...
They stopped making them both... When the suppliers run out of the 2121's, that will be it for them also.
