Over the past year I've succeeded in putting together several great sounding -$100 systems for folks. One came together in the same day from a pair of AR18's (free) and an 80's Nak receiver $20 (R-1?) and a Nak CD player ($15). Put it together for a friend's teenage son. A compact setup with great sound.
Until recently I was listening to a setup that included a pair of thrift found ADS 710's ($18), A Sony 6060F ($30 via craigslist) and a beat-up Denon CD 1500 deck; really liked that setup as well. It's great to put these together, get a good synergy going and pass them on to folks/kids who appreciate them!

Pioneer SX-680, mint w/ orig manual $10
Kyocera PL-701 (table $5, belt $15) $20
Sony CDP-570 cd player $10
Realistic Mach 1 (mint, new surrounds) $30

hours of listening enjoyment and annoying the wife, priceless

NAD 7060 free
Technics SL1401 free
AT125L $25
NEC CDP $20
JVC/Koss DIY Cross breeds $20

All electronics work and sound great. I am especially happy with the speakers as they were sort of an experiment that worked out real well. The JVC speakers (3way, no x-over to speak of)themselves were free. Removed the midrange from the cabinet, the tweeter from the speaker grill, installed Koss M60 crossovers and tweeters and was totally blown away. They're the ones in my avatar with the light wood face and no grills.

Pioneer SA-5800 - 40 from CL
Infinity Entra One - 15 GW
Pioneer TX-6500II - Free
Pioneer CT-F6262 - Free
Technics M226 - Free
Pioneer PL400 - 50

Ok I might have been over by 5 bucks, but come on! I got several items for free!

My bedroom system qualifies:

Realistic STA 52B receiver $25 CL ad
Realistic Minimus 7 speakers $20 eBay
Zenith CV670 auto reverse cassette deck $5 Goodwill
Sony CFD 616 boombox $10 Goodwill (minus speakers, I used the 6 disk CD Changer)
Sherwood ST903 turntable $30 bought used at Musiccraft

I could put this together from my collection to make an AM/FM/CD system:

Proton 300/301 table radio (bi-amped, awesome sound) $10 used

a very used Toshiba DVDP which only plays CD's, and plays them well, $15 used

Beat that :smoke:

2216- ($25 and another for $50 :D )
B&O RX-2- ($5)
Jensen TF-3B's ( $25 ok I sold them last week :tears: ...if that doesn't count then....Stacked JBL 2600's $20, 10 each pair :D )
CDP-C8ESD Sony ES ($25)
Eminence DVC subwoofer in sealed MDF cab DIY with Akai AA-R22, 40 watts to each coil ($20 to fit my trance music fetish  )
Cables 2 sets of Rat Shack 12ft gold series cable for $5

that fits the requirements, but here's my CHOICE:

Yamaha A-700 ($5 underrated @90 watts per channel, some put it easily at 120)

2 eminence subs in folded horn cabs DIY with onkyo TX-5000 which was free (Sold the folded horn for 20 bucks, it was loud as hell but the subs sound better in a sealed enclosure $30 shipped and built)

Stacked JBL 2600 with upgraded tweeters and Peerless woofers (20 for speakers, 20 for woofers and 10 for tweeters)

Macbook and ELO Touchscreen (extended desktop) as source (free),

rat shack cables $5

30 foot 12 gauge AR speaker cable...10 bucks.

That's without tax, I can drop the good speaker cable if necessary

Those will give you 110 db from 30-35hz up...the upgraded drivers in the JBL 2600's help a lot...

Pioneer SX-5580..the black and silver face shining in the light and I have never seen one of these in person. Quite a sight. In nice shape with a few small nicks on the cover and face but nothing distracting..

Sansui SR-636 TT..small nicks on dustcover but the black lacquer nice and shiny..

Technics CS-614 cassette deck..very nice and with the black face and silver knobs to boot..

DBX 118 sound enhancer...in mint condition, not a mark on it..

JVC SEA 10 equalizer...nice shape with small loss of 2 lines on the 15000 kz slider..

and last but not least a Pioneer RH-65 8-track unit that is in nice shape, does show some use but not too bad..

25.00 for all

http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=242849

Concept 11.0 -- $35.00
Micro Seiki DD40 TT -- $12.50
EPI 100V speakers -- $11.00 ($5.00 for the speakers and $6.00 for the new surrounds)
