Every cartridge has a recommended tracking force. Usually there's a piece of paper that comes with the cartridge that has all of the specs. If you got it used, then dealers often list specs on their website....like here:

The recommended range is 1.6 - 2.0 gms. I would start off at about 1.8 or 1.9 and go up and down from there. Too light can create hopping and you don't want that which is why I recommend starting at mid range or a little higher in the recommended range. You'll want to vary it though to see what works best for your TT/TA combo.

In the instruction sheet that came with mine, the manufacturer recommends 1.8 grams. The cartridge requires a good amount of run-in time. Mine sounded harsh when new but has rounded out nicely. Enjoy!

May I ask how much you paid for it and where you bought it? I am on the fence.

I bought it from Needledoctor,
they had it in there closeout section for $60. I drove down the street and picked it up. Later that day, they had removed it from the closeout section.
As for the sound, I'm still pretty green concerning high quailty sound. I thought it better then my old Marantz... Keep in mind, that the 2m has a large cart and might not fit all headshell's.

I always start on the heavy side to help break-in and to make sure it's tracking right off. As any cartridge mellows it's a good idea to play a difficult LP and listen with headphones. Try lightening the forces after say 20 hours play time. With phones, you'll hear the differences. Go light to the point of slight audible distortion and back up by 0.25 grams for light trackers like this one. Should give best results. But it's all about the listening. Each cartridge and arm will be slightly different.

I have a 2M Blue that needed quite a break in time. I hated it at first. real peaky and as you said, raw. After about 50-60 hrs, it smoothed out. the mids got more coherent and the vocals became amazingly real. I'm diggin' it a lot now.
It's a very dynamic cart with a lot of impact. It makes every thing sound real. Like live music, generally...
