It was said previously in this thread: "LP Gear and needledoctor have it for $99.00 and I believe it is listed on eBay for $89.00 from Williams Schallplattennadel Shop."
The $89 listing (exclusive of shipping) on the WSS is a violation of Ortofon's contractual agreement with its vendor network. Thanks for making this known. I'll be calling Ortofon on Monday and reporting this.
Ortofon and Grado make the same request of their dealers: do not post discounted prices openly on the internet. What you say back-channel to individual customers is different. This is done to discourage internet price wars. Internet price wars tend to erode product sales through audio salons, and the mid-and-high-end audio marketplace strongly relies on audio salons to service the discriminating customer.
How, for example, can you compare the sound of two cartridges, side by side, on the same record and on the same premium speakers, in the short enough time frame so that your auditory short-term memory can make accurate judgments, over the internet? The answer is simple. You cannot. To make this judgment, you need to go to an audio salon and EXPERIENCE the two cartridges. If there is no profit margin in the sale of the cartridges to pay the sales person's time-taken to demo both cartridges, how can the salon continue to sell product?
