That $400 unit without tubes sold. If it had good Fisher branded 7868s and Telefunken 12AX7s in it, he's gonna make at least a couple hunnert bux more....:scratch2: Oh yeah and he has 100% good feedback as well.

The most you can do is vote with your $$$ and refuse to buy from sellers who do this. It's interesting that he/she is hiding the fact that they're parting out. Maybe a question to the seller saying are you also greengirl613 might 'out' him for potential buyers.

At the end of the day however if someone wants it, they'll buy the amp and/or the tubes.

This isn't parting out, parting out is listing the unit over dozens of listings to sell "parts". If I wanted an original treble knob I have to buy a $400 receiver? That's not what this is. This is yanking the tubes and profiting on the tubes AND the unit. It's the oldest trick in the book for selling something with value on both sides of the coin. Next you'll see people selling cr-3020's without outputs and selling the outputs in a different auction. It is what it is, I just don't like the practice.

I hear ya, but two followup points...

It kinda sorta is parting out, since he pulled the tubes to "part them out", and then he's selling the "carcass". Pretty nice carcass, though.

The thing about the 3020 outputs example is that someone who has a cosmetically good unit with dead outputs will buy them in a heartbeat, and somebody who has a working but cosmetically bad unit will buy the unit without the outputs to improve the one he has.

Everybody wins.

The guy who bought the $400 500-C is gonna have a nice project for sure. Reminds me of the guy in NYC- wanna buy a watch, the seller will show up at the buyers door in a trenchcoat full of tubes- I got mullards, tele's, westinghouse-what you need??!?!?!
