That guy has been overpriced for years. He seems to cater to overseas collectors by his willingness to ship across the pond. I bought a Citation 4 pre-amp a few years ago and sold it for 550 bucks on ebay unrestored but in mint shape. He was the buyer and I was surprised. He turned around and sold it to Asia for 800 a few weeks later!
I forgot about that preamp....why the hell did I get rid of it again????

The internet has brought some of the rats out of the rigging IMO.Used to be you had to have some knowledge to go into a pawn shop or thrift store and come out with something worthwhile. Now, it seems you have to fight off somebody that just wants to part stuff out for a quick buck and will buy anything they think they can sell. I can't tell you how many times I see people looking stuff up on smart phones while they cart it around the Goodwill only to toss it back onto the rack like it's a dead fish. I actually wanted that fish and was willing to pay for it before they scratched it and dropped it.

Ahhhh ic. I know exactly who that is. I always wondered where the hell that person found all those great old stock tubes...

Ah yes, the always overpriced tubes that come up, nice to see he keeps the tubes with the gear- kinda like the guys who bring the rolling shell z28's back to ottawa from arizona and sell you the engine for the same price of the shell after the fact- neat, not something i'd do.
Pretty sure ebay didn't set the price.
I agree, though, that's too high. Plus, it's been worked on, so there's no way to be sure what's been done.
On the good side he guarantees the iron, but...
Maybe they did, he set it at 299 and they bumped it up to 399 to make profit!

Actually, it's missing four tubes. And also unfortunately, the seller does NOT say that the transformers are good. And none of the pics show whether or not the fuse cap is still on. And he makes no statement about whether or not it works at all.

The most you can do is vote with your $$$ and refuse to buy from sellers who do this. It's interesting that he/she is hiding the fact that they're parting out. Maybe a question to the seller saying are you also greengirl613 might 'out' him for potential buyers.
At the end of the day however if someone wants it, they'll buy the amp and/or the tubes.

If you don't believe in parting out, you may, obviously, refuse to buy the parts. That is, again obviously, assuming you don't, at this moment, need any parts.
Someone who is restoring a unit that needs parts will be happy to buy the parts that you refuse to buy. This will continue to keep up the current FMV of parts, and will have a positive effect on the practice of parting out.
The subject of parting out comes up from time to time, with those opposed being very vocal in expressing their disagreement. However, if you believe in rescuing these wonderful pieces of history, there is something that is an indisputable truth:
If you restore one unit, you save one unit. If you part out one unit, you might save ten units.
People who are whole-heartedly committed to fixing up and saving vintage equipment need people who part out.
It's like, you know, a "relationship". :yes:
