Hey thanks, now got to decide if really need to spend the money. Damn first tube amp have had little over a month now and jonesing to buy more.
I'm forever addicted.

Thinking miscommunication between seller and I, deal fell through. Probably for the best. Not sure what would sound as good or better than the Carlson Stromberg
ASR-120 I lucked into at decent price. All I could do not to trigger on Black ice from Underwood Wally new for $995.00 new last week.
It really sucks living in Poedunk Ok. not being able to audition amps etc.
Anybody have thoughts on sound of the Magnavox 93.xx series amps?

I feel your pain (or lack of pain) ... a while back, a neighbor gave me her Fisher 400 ...just wanted to get rid of "some old piece of stereo stuff ..

after some TLC, I was able to get it back up and running ... replaced some tubes, and I must confess I too am addicted to tube sound, after 40 years of the solid state gospel .. another AK member referred to the Fisher 400 as a gateway drug to tube audio ... so true ! The records never sounded better...and now I find myself surfing auction sites for tube equipment ... good luck in your quest ....

Just got message from seller to make an offer so maybe deal not failed yet. Hope it sounds as good as the Stromberg!

I think they're about equal, though circuits are somewhat different. Maggie may have a little more power, and Stromberg has hard-to-find 7199 driver (I always rewire it for 6GH8). Point-to-point layout in Maggie, vs components on a narrow PCB in Stromberg.

Thanks for info Tom. Am trying to buy the amp but seller pulled the listing before he said make the offer. Maybe next time. The Stromberg has been rewired for the
6GH8. tube. and I love the sound. Curious thing is the more gain given is like more music not necessarily more volume.
Could I be close thinking the lower wattage amps might have better sound or is it application? Hope this makes sense.

Communication problem solved, bought the Maggie and will have opportunity to enjoy in week or so.
Thinking need to start letting go some solid state gear soon.

Dandy.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. Am anxious to compare the sound differences between the Maggie and the SC ASR-120.
I know a lot of it comes down to build quality, parts used, synergy and a host of things that has not entered my thought process yet.
Hopefully one can be for bedroom system and the other for living room. Thinking may have been just a lateral move, if so still can be
happy with that.

I fully endorse your getting another tube amp to compare with your SC ASR-120. Different tube amps do sound different, and hearing those differences is part of the pleasure. I kinda dread the day when I'll really have to choose a few from the range I've inadvertently assembled, though I have a pretty good idea of what would stay!

Cool and if like the sound better will just be one step further down the rabbit hole. LOL What great place AK is!

The Maggie arrived yesterday early am. On first listen was disappointment. Had to realize it was not the SC and would not sound the same. Eventually paired it with some Canton's and sound got much better. Still room for improvement, though think it will turn out much better with the right tubes? and maybe better speakers. Also has a pot with chrome knob behind on/off switch, have no idea what is for?

Never mind. You stated the model in your first post and after looking at it I can see it is different than a 175 or 185. I bought 2 185s to restore and 2 142s to restore as well. Yes, I need an intervention.

Maybe we can get group discount on intervention?

This amp sounds good enough just not that impressive? Not sure if should sound better or not? Potienometer on top and no idea what it does.?
Maybe better tubes? I know it shouldn't sound like the SC ASR-120 but so far not even a lateral move.
