Running 4ohm speakers on a Sansui 1000A

I'm wondering if 4ohm Advent The Small Loudspeaker can be run with the 1000A. There is no 4ohm tap just 16 & 8. I would really like to hear these with tube power but I don't want to do any harm. Thanks

Try them on the 8 ohm tap, no harm is possible.

Sure, I'd use the 8, but be aware that it will change the primary Z of the OPT to some degree. Probably not enough to mess anything up, but you may want to check plate current if you plan on using them a long time. Just looking at the outputs for signs of pink or red in a dark room would be fine too.

I run my 4 ohm speakers on the 8 ohm tap on my Eico HF-12's as it sounds better, and doesn't seem to hurt one bit.

Beware of possible strange anomalies.

I was testing some small bookshelf speakers with my Sansui and something was just not right (the speakers where 8 Ohm). :sigh:

Suddenly the volume and balance controls where "rough and scratchy" sounding (previously OK).

I hooked up a scope to the output and found ultrasonic oscillations and noise on the output that did NOT appear with other speakers or a dummy 8 Ohm load. :thmbsp:

With my present speakers (floor standing size) there are no problems. :yes:

Maybe a strange crossover\couture network in the small speakers? :scratch2:
