Useless trivia...there really was a "R.E.O. Speedwagon"-it was a truck, & REO stood for the initials of Ransom Eli Olds, father of the Oldsmobile, an obscure, failed maker of inferior cars within GM.<grin> After Olds sold Oldsmobile to Billy Durant & GM, he started this company. They made cars until the Thirties, when the Depression caught up w/them, but made trucks for quite awhile later. The "Speedwagon" was one of their models in the later Thirties. Oldsmobile was the oldest maker of cars in the USA, having started in 1897. Ford built his first Quadricycle in 1896, & the Ford Motor Company was started in 1903. Cadillac started in 1902, Chevrolet in 1914, Chrysler was a relative latecomer in 1924.

I once actually saw them 2 nights in a row when they were openers for Wishbone Ash back when both bands were solid rockers (early '70s)
REO Two and "Live, You get what you Play for" are both decent, fun records that got a lot of play. Gary Richrath had some nice rockin' solos too. "Little Queenie", "157 Riverside Avenue", "Let it ride", "Ridin' the Storm Out" all are very crankable tunes :guitar: :guitar:
But all that '80s ballad stuff after "Tuna"

Not to stray too far off-topic, but I got the chance to meet Stevie Ray & hang out with him in his dressing room before a show. He handed me his SRV Strat (Ol' #1) - "Here, play it!" For the record: it didn't have bass frets on it. It was strung very heavy (.013 - .056 or heavier). But, he played tuned down a half-step & only had two springs in the vibrato so there was a lot of 'give' when he bent strings. It actually had a very soft feel considering how heavily it was strung. When I handed it back he dug a couple of splinters out of the well-worn body, stopped & looked at me with his ****-eatin' grin & said "I probably shouldn't do that!" He & his crew were very, very nice guys. I've attached a never-seen photo of him from that moment. I'm standing on his left.

what i hate about that "making a comeback" it's that comebacks are not a bit natural, its made by industry....
I have my comebacks weekly and i know that there always been some "acceptable" grooves in every genre... what not means that this has to be others opinion.
I always had a circle of disco that in my eyes was ok, what i always hated was the pressing out of any new direction for only commercial cause.
I loved some New Wave until the industry found out that there's a market... its always the same... riding the horse to death.

In my opinion, the '80's was truly a crappy decade for rock music in general. From synthrock to the big hair metal bands, it was truly a mess. The only saving grace for me was the resurgence of the folk rock genre spearheaded by REM. After their cult status was established, the underground scene blossomed with such artists as Guadalcanal Diary, Arms Akimbo, and The Windbreakers among others. For the most part though, the creativity of the late '60's and early to mid '70's was gone. Only todays music scene is worse. I can barely listen to most of todays artist. MTV definitely played a part in the downfall of the '80's with the advent of round the clock rock videos. Then looks became more important than the music. How I got tired of all the posing and crappy theatrics in these videos, and so it continues today.

I'm with ya on this observation! Some of these 80 bands started out good then went way down hil...Styx and Journey followed the same path as REO...
