'80's rock bands that sucked & still do......

The 80's ruined to many bands. Whether it be new members, selling out to marketing schemes etc... One of my favorite bands is the Doobie Brothers. Only pre 80's though. The edge went out of their music and became "pop" when Michael McDonald joined. I think the labels took alot of the creative control away from the artists. Also they were now making big $$ so better not make waves. How about The Escape Club, J Geils, Spandau Ballet, VAN HALEN :puke2: :puke2: :puke2:

Millions of people would disagree with you. I am suspecting alot of old people here. :)

still.... I would take any of those bands over anything put out by todays artists. even the ones on the list I dont like.
 
It's kinda hard to hate today's bands-because so much of the time you never know what the name of the song or the band is, they never say on the radio anymore..Most of 'em anymore are seemingly "One-hit wonders", & they don't interest me enuff to make me wanna invest $12-15 in a CD..
 
I guess since I grew up in the 80's and graduated in 1985 that I disagree with most all of them. There are bands that I don't like that much from those in the list but hearing some of the songs brings back great memories.

The single most band I cannot stand is Guns and Roses. Axel just plain sucks ass as a singer and as a person. Slash and the rest of the band are good, though. I just don't like his voice and anything that even starts on the radio, on satellinte, etc that has him in it gets turned immediately. Like nails on a chalk board. lol
 
a few months ago i got a whitesnake "hits" comp so i would have a representative example of an 80s hair band. what i discovered is that it isn't too bad if you don't have to look at them.
I also liked some of the early 80s groups--still a sprig of the 70s in their music.
 
Agree with most of the "big hair" bands in post #1 and #2, but happen to like many of the bands in #6.

If these haven't been mentioned before, these are "turn the radio off and walk out" bad:

Foreigner

(in no particular order, except for Styx being solidly on top).

At the other end of the scale: A guy came to my house the other day to pick up some speakers. I turned on "Aja" as I often times do to show off my system. The first thing he said was "Steely Dan - the best thing to come out of the 1980's". Couldn't agree more! Would probably add Depeche Mode and R.E.M on my own.

I don't know if these are technically '80's bands - but to me, they are!

The 80's didn't ruin any bands ..... MTV ruined them. When the video became more important than the music, it all went downhill. Most bands (like Scorpions from 1974 onward, for instance) labored for years before they became "known". Once MTV was able to hype the living snot out of the latest small bar "find" and sign them to mega-contracts before they ever produced a single fan or crowd or "paid their dues", then it all went downhill.

I also am not sure what XTC, one of the most thoughtful bands of the past 30 years, has to do with that list. What I think was their first American release (I don't know what they did across the pond), was not too compelling, and it was "punkish" Just about everything after that was between good and downright brilliant. English Settlement, the 1- and 2-disk versions, is about as good as it gets.

And I can't stand Styx or Boston (two songs worth hearing, each), but they aren't hair bands and they may be 70s bands.

I hope Kerry King personally inflicts pain and suffering to anyone who talks trash about Slayer:bash: ; a true 80's thrash band. I still love Metallica, but I don't know about those dreaded haircuts. Lars looks like Eminem.
