Hey Tim, Happy New Year!
As you probably know, I went with the Markwart XOs with my 604-8G DIY build. I am happy with them. Compared to the OEM Altec XOs...well let's just say they both passed sound to the speakers...
However the Markwarts are on another level. Smooth, rich and coherent are three words that quickly come to mind. I wanted to built the XOs myself using quality components. The fact that the schematics were available, plus plenty of good reviews here... it was a easy decision for me. Good Luck!

I have 604-168x drivers I had active crossovered, but I eventually made a pair of Markwart xo's and I find them much nicer!
The nice thing with passive is you change in different gear and not have so much hassle.

You know that my Super Big Reds with 604E2/Utah are active with passive adjustable eq for the horns with a one-off crossover and eq units made just for these arrangements. I've not heard better 604s.
I have a simple 2-way electronic crossover that you are welcome to use if you want to try going active (adjustable frequency, but only one "second order" slope setting and no "speciality settings such as CD horns).
I know you have plenty of amps. I can leave it out for you, no contact necessary, if you want to give it a try. What else have you got to do staying at home???

My comparison of the original Altec XOs to the Markwart was not really fair. Although true, the originals were just that, original and never re-Capped. Just saying...my gut tells me even if they were recapped and all components tested for spec. The markwarts would still sound much better.
