ADS models, an impromptu rollcall

Soundmotor,

That makes sense... I'll try mounting the tweets 90 degrees from that used for the L810s and see if there is any difference. Thanks.

Mine are the same 4 ohm with approximately 6" woofers. boyon00 do yours have foam or rubber surrounds?

The 710's have 7" woofers in them. The early ones had foam and later ones had rubber. Probably by the time they were ADS not aDs they switched to rubber. In the ADS Line Pecking Order thread soundmoter gives the reason why earlier speakers had foam. Something to the effect that the rubber surround manufacturer didn't have that size in rubber. Richard So rebuilt the drivers in my 1975 vintage aDs 710's with rubber surrounds and still has some in stock the last time I communicated with him.

Well my cone diameter is 5". To the outer edge of the basket is 6 3/4". How does that translate to 7"?

Sorry, you are correct soundmotor. What I mean to write is that the eight inch woofers in the L810s are really not eight... if measured, they seem like something betweek six and seven inches. :screwy: No matter, the series I versions seem to make reasonable bass as is... :thmbsp:

Did you get a pair? If so what do you think of them?

Here's the specs:
48-20,000 hz +- 3db
6 ohms nominal, 4 ohms minimum
92 db spl at 1 meter with 1 watt
1" dome tweeter
7" Stifflite driver
100 watts max
17.5x11.25x7
16 lbs

Thanks for the specs. I picked up a pair about a week ago, and I'm very impressed.
They're obviously lacking a bit in bass, but impressively efficient, crystal clear, and tight as a drum.
They took over in the home office/computer room for my EPI 100s while I recap, refoam (I put a drill through a new woofer foam when I re-capped one), and install 5-way binding posts, then break in the new caps. I'm not sure the EPIs will make it back in now.

I'm on the lookout for a pair for my kids room. Then I'll have backup tweets and drivers for my 710's if ever needed.

But for now, I'm keeping them off the official list.

The rumored models-

ADS L600, with supposed 7" woofer
ADS 800, supposed 2 or 3 way, supposed 3 or 4 driver
ADS L1430, supposed 3 way, 4 driver
