Hi there, would you happen to have a pic of the ADS 880 to share?? I'd like to see what one pair looks like. I have a chance to pick up a good working pair for $180 this weeeknd. Would that be a good price?

This auction is for a pair of ADS L880 LOUDSPEAKERS in excellent cond.

If not for the few light scratches & a small chip [see pics] in the front grill area, these would be mint/perfect cond. These speakers reproduce excellent sound with great efficiency. These loudspeakers are almost small enough to be large bookshelf speakers.

Dimensions and specs are as follows: The loudspeakers feature a 10" rubber surround woofer with a 2" soft dome midrange & 3/4" tweeter. The industrial strength 10" rubber surround is 1/16" thick.

The L880 speakers were made for playing loud on all types of music & were built in Feb. of '84. The tweeter [model # 206-0117] & midrange [model# 206-0211] are the same ones found in the L710 & L810. Those drivers had the 6.5" woofers, not the larger 10" woofer. These are fuse protected and have a brightness switch {not pitcured, but to the left of the terminals}, weigh almost 40 lbs. ea. & have a 200 WPC Max. rating @ 8 ohms. These are not the simple 4 ohm drivers with limited individual frequency response of today. These are full range loudspeakers. The L880 model was one of the top-of-the-line loudspeakers from ADS.

The dimensions are as follows: 23-1/8" H X 13-1/16" W X 11-5/8" in depth. The limited serial #'s are almost consecutive : 003802 & 003804.

The cabinet blemishes can be seen in the photo's and are as follows: The top of one speaker has 3 scratch lines & a small scratch on the beveled/tapered/angled side. There is an area if the front the was slightly damaged by the front grill and is only cosmetic but not really noticable with the grills on. There are no other obvious sratches on these. There are a few little scuff marks or mars when veiwed from about a 6" distance. That would be consistant with age. Of course there are scuff marks on the bottom, I haven't looked. but....The grills are a metal mesch and one is dirty and both have various dents in them but stay in place just fine. Both speaker have their logos as well as the screens. Over all these are very nice speakers.

I think that's a good price but always try and get them lower. The value goes up if they have the original boxes and literature. Good luck and let us know if you get them and how they sound to you.

Oh, I don't - but Orion's usually pretty good with getting model numbers, MSRP, and years right, even if the values are goofy!

The dates appear to follow the actual introductions of many of the models by a year or two. Also, there are extra models such as 200CC with an '89 intro and L200CC with an '88. L200CC is the correct designation and was already for sale when I went to work there in '87. Same for 300CC / L300CC.

Finally got back into the ADS ownership group!! My "new to me" ADS-L880's showed up today and are even cleaner than the description stated. The drivers are in perfect condition with a small amount of dust on one midrange. The cabinets are very nice for their age with no deep scratches or damaged corners.

They had a very low BIN on the bay, so I figured they would be hammered or not work (sold as-is), so I hooked them up and....... the sound was very poor. Now I knew why the price was so cheap. The first thing that came to mind were the fuses, but could the past owner have not thought of this? Two buss fuses later, the 880's are singing like new, and I am left very impressed. I need to spend some "time in the saddle", but so far..... :thmbsp:

Another one for aDs 400 without the "L". Original owner. Just blew a tweeter too! Already contacted Richard. I found ADS 1290s at a pawn shop about 10 years ago for $165/pr. that sound great, but cabs were damaged with some deep gouges. I thought the best way to restore would be to remove all componets and have a black laquer finish done. (I didn't do anything though!) BTW, does anyone know about some sort base for these? I think something is missing. They are not stable on carpet.
 
I have a pair of the aDs L810s. They're in pretty good shape - just some dust on the drivers and a few really light scratches on the top of the speakers. They set me back $95, and seem worth that price, but I'm not sure if they're going to replace my Axiom m22s for music listening.
 
My first set of speakers off of Craigslist was a set of nice L420's for $65. Currently on long term loan to my parents along with one of my NAD 7045's. My dad probably won't be around much longer, and I wanted to be sure he had something nice to listen to during his last days...Wish I could have gotten that old Grundig console they gave away a few years ago....

I see your list still doesn't have any data on the L500. I'm listening to a pair now. I'm the original owner, and they have had no changes since they were made. Still sound good.

I would guess that they would be classified as 8", since that's roughly the outer diameter. They're labelled as 4 ohms.

How about posting a picture of them? I've never seen any information on L500's.

Its always a good idea to replace the fuses when you acquire a pr of ADS. The 1230s I got a couple of months ago (for $430 on eBay) had broken tweeter fuses on both, resulting in poor sound. I replace all 4 fuses and they're singing like new, and how.

We are priveleged indeed to not only have these wonderful speakers, but to be able to obtain them at ridiculous prices. Except for 810s of course. That, Little Atom, is another story.
