Advent Maestro vs Advent Legacy

I just scored a pair of nice Advent Maestros that need foam.

I have previously owned Original, New, Smaller advents as well as Legacy 2 and 3s.

How are these going to compare?

I am excited to start the restoration!

The Maestros like big power.

If you have something in the 80wpc+, you may enjoy them.

Below that and the woofers fall flat.

Are you saying you have to put 80wpc to each speaker in order for it to sound good? If I am doing normal to low level listening I rarely use more then 1 or 2 watts.

The Maestros I've fixed up seem to sound great when testing with a 30 wpc receiver. I normally use either a Onkyo or Yamaha black face ~30 wpc stereo receiver for testing and auditioning.

In my opinion are sleepers, sell for way less then they are worth.

For me, Maestros were noticeably better than Legacy 2s, OLAs, and NLAs.

I only have room enough for so many speakers and the Maestros just didn't make the cut, not because they were bad, just because I've found some that were better. That said, if I weren't involved in the buying and selling part of this hobby, I probably could have been perfectly satisfied with them as my only pair for the rest of my life.

I regularly use more than one or two watts per channel although I may not see it on the meters. Try an amp rated at only one or two watts and then see how that sounds. I'm a big believer in big reserves and the Maestros can handle quite a bit.

No, to make them sound really good, having a large amp with power makes them sound good at low listening level.

The OLA, NLA, smaller Advent and 3s sound good at low level with just about anything.

If all you have is smaller amp power, you will probably find that the Maestros are lame compared to the others.

I was disappointed myself until I discovered that the Maestro liked a big amp.

I rarely go past a few watts unless I am really enjoying a particular tune.

I have seen comments like this on various audio forums, but never found it to be true in my decades of experience with over a dozen audio amps and receivers, ranging from 10 watts to 250 watts

Would you elaborate as to why you believe what you say above is true??
