I have an opportunity to get an Akai GXC-570D for $150 locally on Craigslist.
Is this a good purchase? I have a Nakamichi BX150 which I really like but I have been collecting various pieces lately.

$150 if its completely up to snuff mechanically with new rubber and so forth and so on, otherwise a fiddly and challenging project.

axe me how i know...

I do own a 760D which shares a lot of parts with the 570D (heads, meca...).

It is a very impressive deck, Akai TOTL mid/end 70's but is is complexed and with specific technologies (so it will be nearly impossible to find neither spare parts nor remplacement parts).

So be sure that it is in perfect working condition.

I have a 570D. It is a neat machine and quite collectible. Has glass heads, variable wind control and really neat transport controls. The motorized door at the top is prone to fail but looks cool. A heavyweight for sure - this was the pinnacle of Akai's cassette efforts, IMO.

I fooled around and replaced the belt and got everything working great. Only one problem left. The cassette compartment has two burned out incandecent lamps that are burned out and soldered to a small board. they are rated at 8volts and I want to replace them with leds any idea on where to get some?
