Album Covers - Beyond the Norm

How about a CD?

Tori Amos's - Scarlet's Walk. Comes with a map of her "walk" across the US. Each segment of her tour is color coded and matches up to a song on the map legend. A CD+sleeve, DVD+sleeve, stickers, photo/postcards and even a little red lizard.

Led Zepellin's - In Through the Out Door.

The outer sleeve was a plain paper bag. The inner jacket was mono chromatic and in six different versions. Once wetted with water, the jacket would turn into color.

That's the only DK album I own and up close that poster is... let's just say unpleasant. It was created by H.R. Giger, obviously best-known for his design work on the original Alien film among other things.

I never knew about the legal controversy.

The title is "Penis Landscape". (I can post a huge photo if anyone wants a close-up.)

Yep.. had that of happened today, the band and label would have all probably ended up in prison and on an "offender" list the rest of their lives... Different times...
 
Apologies for a temporary thread-jack, but in doing a search on Penis Landscape and how it nearly bankrupted Alternative Tentacles Records, I unearthed some PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center) memories, complete with nasty Tipper Gore flashbacks.

Hard to believe it's been 25 years since the addition of Parental Advisory labels, or the "Tipper Sticker".

And whou would have ever of thunk it would be Zappa and Schneider to stand up to her and for the most part win the argument?
 
Then there was the disco era Stones Some Girls album, that has the cover cutouts
that when pulled changes the faces as it is moved.

The later versions had a few faces removed, notably Miss L. Ball.
 
The Faces' Ooh La La, the guy's mouth and eyes move.

The Stones record that Totem is speaking of above is, Some Girls
 
Tim Buckley's 'Greetings From LA' with the postcard on the front...

The Raspberries 'Side 3' looks like a bushel of, well, raspberries.

Roberta Flack's 'Killing Me Softly' opens up like a piano...

The Who by Numbers

The cover was a dot to dot to create the members of the group. I hope they do Squeezebox on Superbowl Sunday. :D
