Yep, I follow the FMTuner group, and I've even got a few DIY antenna designs on my own web site (links to the work of others, that is). I noticed that post, but I haven't been sufficiently motivated- yet.

Same with alignment. it's just not quite high enough on the list. But I will do something about switch boxes. I can confidently handle that one.

Looks like the clown who sold me this is not going to take it back. So I'm gonna see if I can diagnose its problem (lack of signal). If I can't, maybe I could cannibalize it to make an FM-only antenna.

Here's the link to Channel Master. It does specify FM reception. I took it down and put up the 'old' one.

Yes, I have a rotor, but no preamp. Even w/o one, a station at 80 miles (7.7kw) shows about 40 dbu under normal conditions; same day, same tower, same wire, the Channel Master shows about 15-20 dbu on the same tuner. So ima take this one back

How are you measuring the signal strength? Does your tuner have an actual dbu scale?

Two Onkyo tuners: T-4711 and T-9090 II. They're usually within a few digits of each other.

I run a pair of 6-element yagi in parallel (RS version of the FM-6) due to swing restrictions. I have them about 10' apart and about 5 degrees off of parallel in orientation. If your mast can support both, you might try that rather than simply having the new antenna 'sitting around'.

I'm gonna pound on Channel master, to see what they know about this, probably next week. I can't feature this is how the thing is supposed to function.

If I can get it working where I think it should be (better than what I have now), I'll replace the old antenna. The ultimate is to put another tripod on the roof, mount the second one, and try this phasing thing. I think it would require a pretty long mast to mount both, a little taller than I'm comfortable with (partly because of WAF).

The droids that responded to me were no help. It's no good to me in its current configuration. I've been wanting a balls-to-the-wall FM antenna, so I'm thinking of building one out of the Channel Master's bones, something like this.

I knew I wasn't crazy. Finally cracked the code on this thing. FM is disabled by default, different from most antennas I've encountered. That fact and the fix are not documented anywhere I could find, also apparently including for the hired help.

So I'll test this tomorrow. Preliminary runs are good.

With a bad hip & knee, I'll only go up that 12' vertical ladder in an emergency. Hooked up exactly like a single yagi except t'd together about 15' from each antenna.
