Any cat lovers here?

I adopted 9 year old Angie about a month ago. She didn't like to be touched much at all. Would always scoot out of the way when I walked within 4 feet of her. In the last month that distance has narrowed to a couple feet.
She will now wake up when sleeping in the afternoon, meow, then walk over for head and back scratches. Recently she started allowing me to pet her when she walks up. Any other time that's not allowed.

She's trained me to get up and feed her in the morning. I found that she likes to get into the tub to lick any standing water. Every time I go into another room she will follow then lay down where she can see me. When I go to the bathroom she comes in and expects me to run the water a bit for her. She has me trained to do this every time I go in there. Since this room is the one she seems to like the most she's allowed me to be close. Since this is the only place where being close is allowed (besides where she sleeps next to me on a comforter just for her) any time I have to relieve myself I'll sit on the throne because she will walk in and let me scratch her from her head down to the base of her tail. She purrs and allows me to pet her too.

She is getting closer to me now and will curl up at my feet to sleep allowing a brief head scratch.

She's coming around slowly.
Bought a cushy bed for her which she never used once. Took it back for a refund. Got a heating pad and that too is unused.

Some Kraftwerk in the player, everything was good until a few Porsche 356s went thru the house during Autobahn and they decided it was time to investigate… four cats all chasing something they can’t see racing thru the house and crashing into each other while Mattie watched the carnage, I swear she was laughing just as hard as I was!

Looks like she's seen better days...

...but her best days are ahead.

Our cat Raffy (Raffaella) passed over the weekend. She had started peeing in the TV room instead of her box,
and one evening when she curled up on me as we watched TV after dinner, I felt my lap getting warm and wet - she was peeing on me!
We took her to the vet who diagnosed her as diabetic, so I started giving her insulin for a week.
But we got home after the car show Saturday and - it was like she'd had a stroke. She was dizzy, walking in circles and when she fell over,
she didn't seem to be able to get back on her feet. When we got up Sunday morning, she had passed overnight. RIP.

When we rescued her in 2020, they said she was a "west Virginia Barn Cat" which we later figured actually meant semi-feral.
She didn't know what to do with the stairs in the house - took her a while to figure them out!
She was overweight, food insecure, and bit us a few times over the first year, until she grew to trust us. Indoor cat only!
I fed her and did the litter box, so she trusted me first. Got lots of pictures of her curled up on my legs, safe and sleeping.

A friend gave us a stuffed fox back in 2024 - Raffy was NOT pleased!

Our previous pair of cats were Himalayan - One lavender point, one seal-point,
and when we are ready, I suspect our next cat(s) will be that breed again.
A lot smarter and great personalities.

But I'll certainly miss Raffi!

Aw. Pretty girl.

We found the vet, who we actually liked and trusted, as well as the other two vets who saw my boy Mr. Orange.....had no idea how to treat feline diabetes other than a miniscule basil long acting injection.

In about 2 months, after figuring that out, I had him down to normal numbers (same as humans 80-120-ish) on a consistent basis using the same regime I use on myself- sliding scale 70/30.

On their regime, he had been 300+ and not getting any better.

She had been overweight when we first got her and had slowly gotten to a more normal weight. She'd gotten skinny over the summer,
but once we started the insulin shots she started having more energy and didn't look so gaunt. She looked better after a week of shots.
The vet noticed that and was optimistic. I think there was something else going on - but its moot now.

Our boy also had CKD, and that was what eventually got him.

VERY hard to treat both, as the treatment is almost the opposite.

We figured the diabetes was the most serious issue, and we got almost five more years with him.

Very sorry for your loss. She is beautiful!

Very, very sorry to hear, Heather. It sounds like you gave her the best six years of her life - she was a pretty girl, and it looks like she was well and truly loved. Keep her with you in your memories and the many photos. It's ALWAYS too soon, but know that she's in good company on the far side of the bridge.

My deepest condolences.

How was propagation?
I'm in MN and the west coast was quite strong this late afternoon, tried earlier for some eastern action but I have something nearby generating QRM around 28.345 with spikes about every 10 Khz on either side with a 500 KHz wide footprint. Tried to hunt it down with no success, nothing in the house is making it as I pulled the main and ran the Drake from an Onan generator... GRRR! Noise dropped off around 1500 local so I got some NorCal contacts at 5/9+ on SSB. Florida beacons were on a 3 min fading cycle and I got one out of Alabama on 28.455

I need to pay more attention to my Ham gear on the days I don't work...I'll give a listen on Friday and Saturday...it should be a good time to warm up the Omni V...

I always enjoyed 10M...I used to have a Uniden 2510 and a footwarmer in my pickup and would regularly operate through the 10M FM repeaters on the east coast...there was a great one out of Boston that seems gone now, that i would regularly work into England...but that was last century...I had many, many contacts through them from home using my FT990, too...

My favorite operation, though, was the Molniya satellites, like AO-10...but they're gone now too....
