Any "covers" ever better than the originals?

I'm probably the last person in the world who's found this, but I just listened to The Jerry Garcia Band doing Los Lobos' Evangeline. Big fan that I am of Los Lobos, Jerry's version kills the original.

Happy trails,
Larry B.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but anyone else doing a Bob Dylan song is an improvement :)

I was reminded of kind of an obscure one in another thread last night. The Jesus Lizard did a smoking (albeit somewhat incoherent) cover of The Dicks' "Wheelchair Epidemic" (I think Rapeman - Steve Albini's band - covered it too as well)

Charles Earland's version of "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday", originally by the Spiral Staircase. Absolutely love Charles Earland's 8+ minute live cut.

Most of the covers I prefer to the originals have been mentioned. Sinéad O'Connor doing Sacrifice, Cowboy Junkies' Sweet Jane are notable enough that I want to mention them again.
Not mentioned yet Veruca Salt doing My Sharona - slow and smoldering and just dripping with lust!
UB-40 covering Niel Diamond's Red Red Wine.
A couple of covers I like, but not quite More than the originals are:
Only You - originally by Yaz (Yazoo) covered by a cappella group Flying Pickets
and Siouxsie and the Banshees version of Dear Prudence.

I don't know if its been mentioned, but Five Finger Death Punch has an amazing cover of "Bad Company" - better than the original IMO.

It's really difficult to cite the live versions that aren't on an artists records. Especially when you go to a lot of concerts like I do. Sometimes I can never even find a recording of it to re-live it. For example; The Cowboy Junkies, doing Love Hurts.

Here are a few that I don't think were mentioned...

Jeff Beck - Little Wing

Seal - I Can't Stand the Rain

Shinedown - Simple Man

SRV - The Sky is Crying

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings - This Land is Your Land

The Sundays - Wild Horses

For me, concrete blonde doing Leonard Cohens "Everybody Knows" and Cheap Trick "Mandocello" is superior to the original.

Also, in no particular order

Ray Charles doing Leon Russells "A Song For You"
Aretha Franklin "Eleanor Rigby"
Anthrax doing "She" by Kiss
Monster Magnet doing "There's no way out of here" is pretty good.

May have already been mentioned, but

Joe Cocker's version of the Beatles’ “A Little Help From My Friends” and

Hendrix’s version(s) of Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower”

Well off the top of my head....Easy Like Sunday Morning by Faith No More, is WAY better than Lionel Ritchie's version(original)
anyone agree with that?? Now WATCH IT!!! your welcome. at 1.53 it rocks hard!

A couple I'm partial to are Springsteen's Tougher Than the Rest by Everything But the Girl, and Jackson Browne's For a Dancer by Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris on the Western Wall Sessions.

Enjoy the music,
