Any fans on the JVC TD-V1010?

I have measured many of the Naks, HK CD-491, Aiwa AD-850, 810 etc. I have measured many of the Dennon 3 head models. They all have excellent performance, but in wow and flutter the JVC is the best under .04% weighted.

Very impressive. I'm surprised they actually test out that well. Looks like it would take a lot if deck to beat one! One of those audio hidden gems, it would appear.

Small things, like a little 'smearing' in hi hats, or the less differentiated stereo image. But I'm a sceptic when it comes to comparing gear: if someones nails it 10 out of 10 in a blind test, I'd believe he's hearing it. But the way I listened, knowing which deck was playing, it might be my imagination letting me 'hear' differences.
The point I'm trying to make is that the JVC's are excellent decks in their own right. It doesn't surprise me that grateful is getting such good measurements.

A ZX-9 is no slouch! If it is even basically comparable to one, then that is an impressive unit.

Is JVC viewed differently in Europe?in Canada it was seen as being very mid-fi. Not comparable to Sonys ES or Pioneers Elite.

JVC was very mid-Fi here in Scandinavia too - their VCR decks was fine, some even directly top notch

Impressions don't always equal reality. JVC has always had excellent technology.

Gramaphone did a test of it. Quoted these stats:

TD-VIOIOTN cassette deck
Frequency response: metal I 5-20,000Hz, Jr 3dB (+ I 5dB)
Signal-to-noise ratio: metal Dolby off6ldB (58dB)
Wow and flutter: 0022% (005%)
Total harmonic distortion: metal 1-0% (0-8%)

Overall gave it a very good review.

I have a TD-V1010TN, which I've had since new. Think I bought it in '89 or '91. I havent bought other tape machines since, but before the JVC I had 13-14 or so. Including Nak and Teac. The JVC is by far the best I've had, though it had to be said that the Nak and Teac was from the lower end of the lines. But when you count in the price at that time, JVC was significantly better, because it wasnt much more expensive than the Teac & Nak.

Mine dont have the wood panels, and I'm in scandinavia.

Anyway, I still love my JVC and I use it frequently. Many people shake their heads, when they hear I'm still using cassettes. But it beats MP3 anyday IMHO. And it's also much more charming.

Another feature the 1010 had that the 711 didn't was the cassette stabilizer. Sort of a smaller version of the Sony's and about the same as Pioneer.

Sound IS personal, but I have had the TD-V1050 for 25 years and have tried several times to fine something I like better - with no success! I drive it with the JVC AX-V1050 and use some custom speakers with five seperate drives and external crossovers, and the sound is the best I can imagine!
