I would too if I were a little closer. I'm roughly 60-70 miles away, which in the Bay area could be 2-4 hour round trip, depending on whether or not you get caught in traffic.

One speaker shows up with very low serial number (ax-01758) that is the lowest serial number I ever seen over the NET, Auction sites, etc.. (easy sold over $300 for the low serial..)

They must be very early transitional models since they still have the grill cutouts of the previous AR2a model. I guess they needed to use up the old style 2a grills that were in the parts bin before digging into the new style ones with the big square cutout for the HF drivers. Very nice, hope an AK'er got them!

Sorry to miss these (off CL now) I live in the same town! I have stumbled on quite a few free/inexpensive speakers (last week Pioneer cs 77a and cs 33a for free). Often the story is that someone has to unload their stuff or that of a relative in a short amount of time. Stereo equipment rates a low priority in these circumstances.

Recently that shoe was on my foot. My aunt passed and I had to clear and clean her house (in Tucson). I donated two big truck loads of stuff to charity. In addition, I threw away many things I would not have ... had the circumstances been different. It is not really about the value of the item, time becomes the limiting commodity. It is actually a humbling experience.

Maybe his grandfather lived in San Mateo?

I'll have to watch this auction, to see how hard I should kick myself when we see the final selling price..
